Join us for the 6th Annual Eagle Wild Mushroom & Wine Weekend in downtown Eagle, Colorado. This weekend will feature delicious foods and dinners created by hand selected local chefs from Eagle utilizing local and regional foods and local mushrooms and wild edibles, foraging for mushrooms & wild edibles, education on mushrooms and wild edibles, wine tastings and beer tastings. The home base for the weekend will be the Brush Creek Pavilion and Park and will host all of the dinners and educational presentations. Plus enjoy a beautiful Labor Day Weekend in the amazing Town of Eagle! The weekend kicks off on Friday with a Welcome Party for weekend guests and continues until Sunday evening. A truly unique experience that any food lover, foodie, locavore or mushroom enthusiast will be sure to enjoy!

Larry Evans has been hunting, cooking, eating, and teaching about wild mushrooms and edible plants for 30 years. He founded the Western Montana Mycological Association in 1991, and it became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 1995. He taught a mushroom class at the Glacier Institute near Glacier National Park for 29 years. He is featured in the Ron Mann film Know Your Mushrooms and has produced and recorded 2 CDs of mushroom music, Fungal Boogie and Fungal BoogieMan. Katrina Blair began studying wild plants in her teens when she camped out alone for a summer with the intention of eating primarily wild foods. She later wrote “The Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants of the San Juan Mountains” for her senior project at Colorado College where she graduated with a Biology Degree. In 1997 she completed a MA from John F Kennedy University in Orinda, CA in Holistic Health Education. She founded Turtle Lake Refuge in 1997, a non-profit organization, whose mission is to celebrate the connection between personal health and wild lands. She has taught sustainable living practices through John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, CA, San Juan College in Farmington, NM, and Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. She also teaches internationally at retreats, festival and educational and healing events. She is the author of her most recent book, published in 2009, Local Wild Life – Turtle Lake Refuge’s Recipes for Living Deep, as well as, several smaller locally distributed publications such as: Commitments for Living the Good Life – The Wisdoms of the Osha Root, Snow Cone Recipe Book, and Las Plantas de Iztac along with four wild plant recipe calendars. She lives at the Turtle Lake Community Organic Garden in Durango, Colorado and is currently working on her forthcoming book, “Our Wealth of Wild Weeds”.

Friday, August 30th
6 – 9 p.m. Mushrooms, Merlot & Mingling at Paradigms – Wild Mushroom & Wine Weekend guests will gather for an introduction of the weekend, meet the experts and other guests and enjoy wine from Veraison Distributing. Food will be served at Paradigms Restaurant in Eagle. Live music from folk singer, Melissa Crabtree.
Tickets: $25 includes hors d’oeuvres from Paradigms, 2 glasses of wine from Veraison Distributing and live music. Hor d’ouevres are mushroom pizzas, duck salad & stuffed mushrooms.
Location: Paradigms Restaurant, 343 Capital Street, Eagle, CO. Come into Eagle. From I-70 West turn left, from I-70 East turn right onto Eby Creek Road . Go around the round about to Grand Avenue and then take your first left onto Capital Street. Paradigms is about 4 blocks down on your right.
At 7 p.m., we’ll make introductions for the weekend and make a couple of brief announcements.

Location: Brush Creek Studio, 909 Capital Street, Eagle, CO. Come into Eagle. From I-70 West turn left, from I-70 East turn right onto Eby Creek Road. Go around the round about to Grand Avenue and then take your first left onto Capital Street. Continue on Capital Street until you see the park on your right. Park in the lot & look for the signs. The studio is the smaller building on the left.

- 8:30 a.m. – Larry Evans Presentation #1 – The Incredible Life of Fungi For over half an hour, we will explore the little known world of some of the most important organisms on the planet, how they live, why forests depend upon them, and the myriad of things they EAT. What life is like when you live on your lunch.

10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Foraging in Eagle, CO (free & open to the public). Guided foraging with Katrina Blair will be on Browns Loop (FSR 418) in Eagle. Other foragers are encouraged to go to their favorite spots, or on Browns Loop as well.
Directions to Brown’s Loop: The Brown’s Loop trail begins at Yeoman Park Campground B-loop and ends at Yeoman Park Day Use Area. This is an easy trail near East Brush Creek that has a fishing pier and interpretive signs along the way. From I-70 exit 147 for Eagle, turn south on Eby Creek Rd to the Route 6 roundabout. At roundabout, turn right (west) on Route 6/Grand Ave and travel 0.8 miles to next roundabout. At this roundabout, take the third right onto Sylvan Lake Road. Continue 1.6 miles to Brush Creek Road, and take a right on Brush Creek Road. Follow Brush Creek Rd for roughly 9 miles to the fork of East and West Brush Creek. Turn left onto East Brush Creek Rd., FDR 415 and drive for 6 miles to Yeoman Park. Enter the campground and drive to the end of Loop B where the trailhead is located.
2:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Guests arrive back at Brush Creek Studio for Mushroom and Wild Edible identification. Sponsored by Terrafaux.
3:30 – 6:00 p.m. – Break for guests
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – 1st Course of the Wine Pairing Dinner: Mushroom & Wild Edible Tasting at Brush Creek Pavilion – Local Chefs from Colorado Mountain College will prepare the bounty for the day for guests to taste and savor. Part I of the wine pairing dinner. – Only open to guests who are attending the Wine Pairing Dinner.

7:00 – 11:00 p.m. – 3 Course Wine Pairing Dinner at Brush Creek Pavilion Prepared by Local Top Chefs from Adams Rib & Old Kentucky Tavern – The grand event of the weekend with local chefs preparing a 3-course dinner focused around mushrooms and wild edibles in a truly farm to fork type preparation. Wine for the tasting has been provided by Veraison Distributing. Relax at Brush Creek Pavilion as your tastebuds relish the meal and you can discuss your days bounty. Also enjoy live music throughout the evening from “Whiskey Crazy” featuring Brandon Lee Gardner & Troy Harris!
The Dinner features 3 courses including Palisade Peach Pie for dessert from Magpies in Eagle.

- 10:30 a.m. – Larry Evans Presentation #2 – “Can Ya Eat It?” – Larry Evans will address that age-old question, “Can Ya Eat It?” and look at images of Colorado mushrooms that have made it to the table, and some that are NOT food.
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Foraging in Eagle (free & open to the public)
3:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Identifying the day’s bounty at Brush Creek Studio. Sponsored by Terrafaux.
COST: $20 per person for the presentations & identification
4:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Buttons & Bonfire – enjoy and evening of tastings and brews. Local Restaurants will each prepare a sampling for guests and each dish will have a mushroom theme. Beer from Bonfire Brewery located right in Eagle, Colorado will be paired with each of the tastings. Enjoy live music from local favorites Hardscrabble throughout the evening.
