Despite the simplicity, Erivo channels the power of the song and Tubman\u2019s story as she guides \u201cStand Up\u201d to its potent peak, a tear emerging on her cheek as she builds to a belt, singing, \u201cAnd I just might fail, but Lord knows I tried\/Sure as stars fill up the sky\/Stand up\/Take my people with me\/Together we are going to a brand new home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Harriet<\/i> arrived in theaters last week. Along with Erivo, the film stars Leslie Odom, Jr., Joe Alwyn, Janelle Mon\u00e1e, Jennifer Nettles and Clarke Peters. Kasi Lemmons directed the film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Harriet<\/i> marks Erivo\u2019s third major film role, following turns in <i>Widows<\/i> and <i>Bad Times at the El Royale<\/i>, although she has an extensive theater background, having performed on both West End in London and Broadway.
