Gang Starr<\/a> have dropped the new video for \u201cBad Name,\u201d with Guru\u2019s son filling in for his late father alongside DJ Premier in the visual. The video is the second from Gang Starr\u2019s stellar new album One of the Best Yet<\/em><\/a>, the rap duo\u2019s first LP in 16 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like the video for \u201cFamily and Loyalty<\/a>,\u201d \u201cBad Name\u201d pays homage to Gang Starr\u2019s legacy and the late Guru; in the clip, Guru\u2019s son Keith Casim <\/span>\u2014 who cut his hair to better resemble his father <\/span>\u2014 <\/span>delivers the rapper\u2019s verses, with archival footage of the duo sprinkled throughout.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI initially wanted \u2018Bad Name\u2019 to be the first single that officially brought Gang Starr back,\u201d DJ Premier said in a statement. <\/span>\u201cSince the inception of video music channels, I have always paid very close attention to the direction and production elements. I love coming up with concepts, and I already had a vision for \u2018Bad Name.\u2019 I wanted a fun video with Spice Adams and for Guru\u2019s son to play his father in the video \u2014 and then never do that again. We ended up going with \u2018Family and Loyalty\u2019 with J. Cole as the first single and it worked out perfectly, as Keith was able to get more comfortable being in front of the camera and used to the process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to One of the Best Yet<\/em>, Gang Starr\u2019s last album together was 2003\u2019s The Ownerz<\/em>, after which the duo had a falling out. Following Guru\u2019s death in 2010, DJ Premier began combing through the trove of unreleased material his former partner left behind. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was always known to record all the time. So that\u2019s what made me start going, \u2018Man I know there\u2019s got to be a lot of unreleased stuff that exists,\u2019\u201d DJ Premier told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>. <\/span>\u201cI\u2019ve always \u2014 just as a fan myself \u2014 have wanted another Gang Starr album to exist just because I know our process and what we had as far as the unreleased material. But it\u2019s also mainly for his son, who he loved a lot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
