The Christmas<\/a> Creep is starting to spread like a rash \u2014and its symptoms are already showing up on the Rolling Stone<\/i> charts<\/span><\/a>. Even though we\u2019re still more than a month out from Santa\u2019s annual mass B&E, Mariah Carey<\/a>\u2019s \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d is already among the Top 100 Songs<\/span><\/a>, coming in at Number 62 for the week of November 1st through November 8th. <\/span><\/p>\n

Listening to Christmas music before December is like living an eternal weekend: fun at first, but after a while you might start to lose your mind. Nonetheless, the party has, apparently, begun: \u201cAll I Want For Christmas is You\u201d was streamed 4.8 million times last week.  <\/span><\/p>\n

It all started with a tweet from Carey, who posted a video the day after Halloween announcing that \u201cit\u2019s tiiiiiime!\u201d and dropped new, <\/span>unreleased footage<\/span><\/a> of her music video for the Christmas track. Sorry, ancestors, no D\u00eda de los Muertos this year; Mariah Carey thinks we should all listen to the <\/span>25<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> anniversary reissue of her Merry Christmas<\/i> album<\/span><\/a> instead. And apparently, we are: On this week\u2019s RS 200<\/span><\/a>, Merry Christmas <\/i>comes in at Number 66, with Michael Bubl\u00e9 Christmas<\/i> following at Number 74.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

We understand your affinity for Carey\u2019s carol, of course. Most modern Christmas songs are as sad and strange as that uncle we all pretend doesn\u2019t exist until the holidays roll around. \u201cAll I Want For Christmas Is You\u201d justifiably <\/span>shattered streaming records in 2018<\/span><\/a> \u2014 with alternatives like \u201cThe 12 Days of Christmas\u201d and \u201cGrandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,\u201d what choice do you really have?<\/span><\/p>\n

But, guys, our pumpkins aren\u2019t even rotten yet. Our decorative Indian corn is still applicable through Thanksgiving. No matter what Mariah Carey may think, it is absolutely not \u201ctiiiiiime.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

I promise, Christmas is<\/i> coming, the goose is<\/i> getting fat, so maybe put a penny in another musician\u2019s hat? (A few thousandths of a penny, really, if you\u2019re streaming.) Something that evokes dark windy nights and almost unreasonable darkness, like Leonard Cohen or just a good old-fashioned dirge? We promise, it\u2019ll make Carey\u2019s classic confection even sweeter. <\/span><\/p>\n
