The clip boasts a psychedelic blend of animation and live action, and seems to jump between Austin and Cambodia, where Keely recently lived for five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2026Trail of Dead began working on <i>X <\/i>in 2018 after Keely returned from Cambodia, and in a statement he said the new record was partly about \u201cthe sadness of moving away from a place that I loved.\u201d Keely added the album was also inspired by Steven Pressfield\u2019s book, <i>The War of Art<\/i>, and grapples with the intricacies of his creative process: \u201cI feel like I\u2019m writing pop music, it\u2019s just not Top 20 pop,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s the pop music I wish was on the radio, the pop music I would\u2019ve grown up with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2026Trail of Dead co-founder Jason Reece added that the album also draws from artists like Talk Talk, Killing Joke and Laurie Anderson, saying, \u201cThere\u2019s definitely the idea of loss, leaving someone or something important in your life, but it\u2019s more abstract.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>X <\/i>marks \u2026Trail of Dead\u2019s 10th album and follows their 2014 effort, <i>IX<\/i>. Keely produced the album alongside engineer Charles Godfrey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2026Trail of Dead also announced a short North American tour in support of <em>X<\/em>, which kicks off January 17th at the Masonic Lounge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles and wraps January 29th at Lowbrow Palace in El Paso, Texas.
