Instead, the list is heavy on soul and R&amp;B, with British singer-songwriter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/yola\/\" id=\"auto-tag_yola\" data-tag=\"yola\">Yola<\/a>, New Orleans funk outfit Tank and the Bangas and Austin duo Black Pumas all getting nods.<\/p>\n<p>The eight artists competing are all at various stages in their career, and announcing the winner will undoubtedly be one of the ceremony\u2019s biggest moments. Until then, here\u2019s a list to help get acquainted with this year\u2019s nominees.<\/p>\n<h4>Billie Eilish<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Who:<\/strong> The 17-year-old Los Angeles homeschooler went viral after releasing \u201cOcean Eyes\u201d in 2016. Her debut album, <em>When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?<\/em> was recorded in her brother Finneas\u2019 bedroom. The record made her an international superstar, albeit a touch darker and more goth than her mainstream contemporaries. \u201cKids use my songs as a hug,\u201d she told<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/billie-eilish-album-songs-interview-tour-tickets-797040\/\"><em> Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in February. \u201cSongs about being depressed or suicidal or completely just against yourself \u2014 some adults think that\u2019s bad, but I feel that seeing that someone <em>else<\/em> feels just as horrible as you do is a comfort. It\u2019s someone to scream with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Hit(s):&nbsp;<\/strong>The synth-y, 808-filled \u201cBad Guy\u201d creeps into your consciousness, with lyrics like \u201cI\u2019m the bad type, make-your-mama-sad type, might-seduce-your-dad type\u201d supplying additional goosebumps.
