{"id":973615,"date":"2019-11-20T09:13:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T16:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=915139"},"modified":"2019-11-20T09:13:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T16:13:06","slug":"drive-by-truckers-preview-new-album-with-bracing-armageddons-back-in-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/drive-by-truckers-preview-new-album-with-bracing-armageddons-back-in-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Drive-By Truckers Preview New Album With Bracing \u2018Armageddon\u2019s Back in Town\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/dannyclinch.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/drive-by-truckers\/\" id=\"auto-tag_drive-by-truckers\" data-tag=\"drive-by-truckers\">Drive-By Truckers<\/a> stare down the end of the world on their new song, \u201cArmageddon\u2019s Back in Town,\u201d the first offering from their upcoming LP, <i>The Unraveling<\/i>, out January 31st via ATO Records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cArmageddon\u2019s Back in Town\u201d is a ramshackle rocker, which is described in a statement as a \u201cwhirlwind joyride through the whiplash of events we collectively deal with each day.\u201d The song finds co-frontman Patterson Hood grappling with a deluge of confusion, dismay, uncertainty and guilt as he sings, \u201cThere\u2019ll be no healing from the art of double dealing\/Armageddon\u2019s back in town again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>The Unraveling<\/i> follows Drive-By Truckers\u2019 2016 album, <i>American Band<\/i>, and was recorded at Sam Philips Recording Service in Memphis with engineer Matt Ross-Spang and longtime DBT producer David Barbe. The album also features guest appearances from the Shins\u2019 Patti King, violinist\/string arranger Kyleen King and North Mississippi All-Stars\u2019 Cody Dickinson, who plays electric washboard on \u201cBabies in Cages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The three years between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-drive-by-truckers-american-band-is-election-year-evalution-103194\/\"><i>American Band<\/i><\/a> and <i>The Unraveling<\/i> marks the longest gap between new DBT records, and Hood and co-frontman Mike Cooley reportedly suffered periodic bouts of writing block as they tried to figure out how to contend with the chaos surrounding them.<\/p>\n<p><!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hood said the band ultimately settled on a approach that was \u201cmore heart and less cerebral,\u201d adding, \u201cWhile a quick glance might imply that we\u2019re picking up where 2016\u2019s <i>American Band<\/i> left off, the differences are as telling as the similarities. If the last one was a warning shot hinting at a coming storm, this one was written in the wreckage and aftermath. I\u2019ve always said that all of our records are political but I\u2019ve also said that \u2018politics is personal.\u2019 With that in mind, this album is especially personal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Drive-By Truckers already have a slew of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivebytruckers.com\/shows.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">live shows<\/a> scheduled for 2020, starting with a trio of gigs in Colorado in January.
