{"id":973638,"date":"2019-11-21T06:45:44","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T13:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=915764"},"modified":"2019-11-21T06:45:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T13:45:44","slug":"coldplay-pause-touring-over-environmental-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/coldplay-pause-touring-over-environmental-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Coldplay Pause Touring Over Environmental Concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/GettyImages-871623066.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coldplay\">Coldplay<\/a> frontman Chris Martin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-50490700\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">announced to BBC News<\/a> that the band will not be going on tour for their new album,&nbsp;<em>Everyday Life<\/em>, until they can offer carbon-neutral concerts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re taking time over the next year or two to work out how our tour can not only be sustainable [but] how can it be actively beneficial,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coldplay\/\" id=\"auto-tag_coldplay\" data-tag=\"coldplay\">Coldplay<\/a>\u2019s last tour was in 2016 to 2017 for their album <em>A Head Full of Dreams<\/em>, which saw them play 122 shows around the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur next tour will be the best possible version of a tour like that environmentally,\u201d he said. \u201cWe would be disappointed if it\u2019s not carbon neutral. The hardest thing is the flying side of things. But, for example, our dream is to have a show with no single use plastic, to have it largely solar powered. We\u2019ve done a lot of big tours at this point. How do we turn it around so it\u2019s not so much taking as giving?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other big-ticket artists have addressed carbon emissions and environmental impact at their shows in recent months. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/billie-eilish\/\">Billie Eilish<\/a> pledged that her next tour, kicking off in March, will be \u201cas green as possible,\u201d with a ban on plastic straws and an \u201cEco-Village\u201d with climate education resources set up at every venue. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-1975\/\">The 1975<\/a> have pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold to their shows and have stopped producing new merchandise T-shirts, instead screen-printing new designs on recycled shirts.<\/p>\n<p>There will still be two more chances to catch Coldplay in concert before they take a hiatus from live performing. To celebrate <em>Everyday Life<\/em>\u2018s release on Friday, the band will perform a two-part concert in Jordan that will be live-streamed on YouTube.
