On Thursday, he addressed the issue without naming the pop star during a Q&amp;A with Shirley Halperin, <em>Variety<\/em>\u2018s executive editor of music, &nbsp;at the 2019 Entertainment Industry Conference, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2019\/music\/news\/scooter-braun-breaks-silence-taylor-swift-bad-guy-1203412278\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Variety <\/em><\/a>reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t talked about this in six months. Not once. I haven\u2019t made a statement about it,\u201d Braun said. \u201cWhen there\u2019s a lot of things being said and a lot of different opinions, yet the principals haven\u2019t had a chance to speak to each other, there\u2019s a lot of confusion. I\u2019m not going to go into details here, because it\u2019s just not my style. I just think we live in a time of toxic division, and people thinking that social media is the appropriate place to air out on each other and not have conversations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I don\u2019t like politicians doing it,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t like anybody doing it, and if that means that I\u2019ve got to be the bad guy longer, I\u2019ll be the bad guy longer, but I\u2019m not going to participate. What I\u2019ll say is I think people need to communicate and when people are able to communicate, I think they work things out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>Braun and Ithaca Holdings\u2019 acquisition of Big Machine gave him and his company ownership of Swift\u2019s back catalog, and was met with disapproval from the singer, who took to Tumblr at the time and accused Braun of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-scooter-braun-big-machine-worst-case-scenario-853836\/\">incessant, manipulative bullying<\/a>\u201d and later, Swift also proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-absolutely-plans-to-re-record-catalog-after-big-machine-deal-874173\/\">re-recording her back catalog<\/a> of songs. Earlier this month, she claimed on Tumblr that Big Music Label Group\u2019s Scott Borchetta and Braun told her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-big-machine-amas-912950\/\">she was not allowed to perform<\/a> her old songs at the upcoming American Music Awards, a claim which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-amas-big-machine-914127\/\">Big Machine has refuted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rollingstone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the Q&amp;A, he continually emphasized a need to communicate without going into specifics. \u201cI think that these problems that are being discussed can be discussed behind closed doors and figured out pretty easily, and it\u2019s something I\u2019ve wanted to do for six months,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s hard, because I can handle it pretty easily, but when it gets to a place where there\u2019s death threats and there\u2019s offices being called and people being threatened\u2026 it\u2019s gotten out of hand. And I think people need to come together and have a conversation, because that\u2019s not what this is about and that\u2019s not what we got into this industry for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A rep for Taylor Swift did not immediately return <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Swift is scheduled to perform at the American Music Awards on Sunday, where she will also receive the Artist of the Decade award.
