{"id":973710,"date":"2019-11-24T20:30:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T03:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=914644"},"modified":"2019-11-24T20:30:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T03:30:47","slug":"taylor-swift-delivers-career-spanning-medley-at-amas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/taylor-swift-delivers-career-spanning-medley-at-amas\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Swift Delivers Career-Spanning Medley at AMAs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/taylor-swift-ama-artist-of-decade.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">After a week of controversy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/taylor-swift\/\" id=\"auto-tag_taylor-swift\" data-tag=\"taylor-swift\">Taylor Swift<\/a> took the stage at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/american-music-awards\/\" id=\"auto-tag_american-music-awards\" data-tag=\"american-music-awards\">American Music Awards<\/a> to perform a career-spanning medley of hits, from 2008\u2019s <em>Fearless<\/em> (\u201cLove Story\u201d) to 2019\u2019s <em>Lover <\/em>title track.<\/p>\n<p>Prolific Hall of Fame songwriter Carole King introduced Swift, saying, \u201cThis past decade has been incredible for this brilliant artist and the best is yet to come.\u201d Swift then took the stage dressed as Tom Cruise in <em>Risky Business<\/em>, her white button-up shirt emblazoned with the titles of her albums. With \u201cFearless\u201d plastered across her back, a troupe of kid-dancers wearing the same outfit joined her onstage.<\/p>\n<p>Swift then stripped down to a golden one-piece to perform \u201cLove Story,\u201d followed by an exuberant take on \u201cI Knew You Were Trouble,\u201d off of 2012\u2019s <em>Red<\/em>. \u201cBlank Space\u201d from <em>1989<\/em> came next, complete with dancing men in suits and ties prancing in front of a screen showing electronic rain. Very <em>Singing in the Rain<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The singer-songwriter then brought Halsey and Camila Cabello onstage to bust out \u201cShake It Off\u201d \u2014 a partial echo of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/see-taylor-swift-perform-shake-it-off-with-camila-cabello-charli-xcx-628342\/\">Reputation tour<\/a> with Halsey replacing Charli XCX. She finished up the medley with \u201cLover,\u201d playing a massive peach piano in a diaphanous pink cape alongside renowned ballet dancers Misty Copeland and Craig Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The lead-up to Swift\u2019s performance was marred by a fresh flare-up in her ongoing feud with her old label, Big Machine, its founder Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun, who acquired Big Machine over the summer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-scooter-braun-big-machine-worst-case-scenario-853836\/\">took control of the masters<\/a> for her first six albums.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hSKPblEtTWg?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Earlier this month, Swift took to social media to claim that Borchetta and Braun had told her she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-big-machine-amas-912950\/\">wasn\u2019t allowed to perform<\/a> her music on the American Music Awards (or use her old materials in a Netflix documentary) \u201cbecause they claim that would be re-recording my music before I\u2019m allowed to next year.\u201d Swift has said she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/can-taylor-swift-re-record-her-old-albums-should-she-875296\/\">plans to re-record<\/a> her first six albums next year in order to regain control of her songs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Big Machine Label Group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/big-machine-taylor-swift-ama-netflix-controversy-913176\/\">released a statement<\/a> saying, \u201cAt no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or back her Netflix special. In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere.\u201d A rep for Swift, however, countered, saying Borchetta flatly denied the request for the AMAs and that Big Machine \u201cnever actually deny either claim\u201d Swift made in her post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Things took an even stranger turn Monday, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-amas-big-machine-914127\/\">Big Machine shared a statement<\/a> saying they had reached a licensing agreement with the producers of the American Music Awards, Dick Clark Productions, that would allow Swift to perform her old songs at the show.
