{"id":973875,"date":"2019-12-04T14:58:37","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T21:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=922367"},"modified":"2019-12-04T14:58:37","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T21:58:37","slug":"taylor-swift-st-vincent-go-gos-films-to-premiere-at-sundance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/taylor-swift-st-vincent-go-gos-films-to-premiere-at-sundance\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Swift, St. Vincent, Go-Go\u2019s Films to Premiere at Sundance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/sundance.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">New documentaries about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/taylor-swift\/\" id=\"auto-tag_taylor-swift\" data-tag=\"taylor-swift\">Taylor Swift<\/a> and the Go-Go\u2019s, as well as a film from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/st-vincent\/\" id=\"auto-tag_st-vincent\" data-tag=\"st-vincent\">St. Vincent<\/a>, will premiere at the 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/sundance-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sundance-film-festival\" data-tag=\"sundance-film-festival\">Sundance Film Festival<\/a>, taking place January 23rd through February 2nd in Park City, Utah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Swift film, <i>Miss Americana<\/i>, was directed by Lana Wilson and, per a statement, follows Swift \u201cduring a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.\u201d Two of the producers listed on the project, Morgan Neville and Caitrin Rogers, also worked on the Oscar-winning doc about back-up singers, <i>20 Feet From Stardom<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The St. Vincent film, meanwhile, seems to be a mix of documentary and fiction, and is listed under Sundance\u2019s \u201cmidnight\u201d category. St. Vincent\/Annie Clark co-wrote and co-stars in <i>The Nowhere Inn <\/i>with Sleater-Kinney\u2019s Carrie Brownstein, while Bill Benz directed it. The movie reportedly centers around St. Vincent\u2019s attempts to make a documentary about herself and \u201cthe unadorned truth behind her on-stage persona.\u201d But after she hires \u201ca close friend to direct\u201d \u2014 ostensibly Brownstein \u2014 \u201cnotions of reality, identify and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Go-Go\u2019s doc, meanwhile, is much more straightforward. Helmed by Alison Ellwood, <i>The Go-Go\u2019s<\/i> will feature \u201ccandid testimonies\u201d from the revolutionary outfit as it explores their rise from stalwarts of the L.A. punk scene to the first all-female band to play their own instruments and write their own songs to score a Number One album.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sundance will also host the premiere of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-news\/oprah-kirby-dick-amy-ziering-music-industry-sexual-assualt-documentary-921347\/\">just-announced documentary<\/a> about sexual assault in the music industry, produced by Oprah and directed by <i>The<\/i> <i>Hunting Ground <\/i>team, Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering. While no official details about the film and its subjects were revealed, the first person billed in the cast in the Sundance statement is Drew Dixon, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/russell-simmons-accused-of-rape-sexual-harassment-by-multiple-women-129317\/\">accused Russel Simmons<\/a> of raping her in 1995.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Other docs set to premiere at Sundance include <i>What Remains Behind<\/i>, about the late actress Natalie Wood, and <i>Happy Happy Joy Joy<\/i>, about <i>Ren &amp; Stimpy <\/i>and its creator, John Kricfalusi, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/arianelange\/john-kricfalusi-ren-stimpy-underage-sexual-abuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">accused of sexual abuse<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/taylor-swift-st-vincent-go-gos-documentary-sundance-2020-lineup-922367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New documentaries about Taylor Swift and the Go-Go\u2019s, as well as a film from St. Vincent, will premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, taking place January 23rd through February 2nd in Park City, Utah.
