Storied singer Martha Wash recently unveiled a delightfully seething screed against greed, \u201cNever Enough Money,\u201d set to appear on her upcoming album, Love and Conflict<\/i>, out January 6th.<\/p>\n

The recently released \u201cNever Enough Money\u201d is a stomping, rough-around-the-edges blues rocker anchored by a righteous vocal performance from Wash, who skewers reckless and unchecked thirst for wealth and attention. \u201cYou think you\u2019re trending now,\u201d she sings, \u201cAnd everybody\u2019s going \u2018Wow!\u2019\/ If all you want is more\/ Then I\u2019ll show you the door\/ You tweet and troll us all \u2014 can\u2019t you be sweet\/ There\u2019s never enough money in the world for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Love and Conflict<\/i> marks Wash\u2019s first solo album since 2013\u2019s Something Good<\/i>, which in turn was her first solo record since her self-titled 1993 effort. For Love and Conflict<\/i>, Wash teamed with producer Sami Basbous, saying, \u201cMy producers took me out of my comfort zone and into a new musical direction and the results are both uplifting and thought-provoking. I think that everyone will relate to the lyrics on this album and each listener will get their own message from the music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wash broke out as a back-up singer for Seventies disco star Sylvester, while her own duo, the Weather Girls, scored a famous camp hit with 1982\u2019s \u201cIt\u2019s Raining Men.\u201d Wash saw an unexpected resurgence<\/a> in the Nineties, as her soaring vocal tracks anchored C + C Music Factory\u2019s \u201cGonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now),\u201d Black Box\u2019s \u201cStrike It Up\u201d and \u201cEverybody Everybody,\u201d among others. As a result, Wash earned the title \u201cQueen of Clubland,\u201d  but after models lip-synced to her tracks in videos without her knowledge, she became a formidable advocate for artists\u2019 rights as she fought to receive proper credit and compensation for numerous songs.<\/p>\n
