She was the first woman to shoot a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/eric-clapton-on-the-cover-of-rolling-stone-15427\/\">cover for <em>Rolling Stone <\/em><\/a>\u2014 of Eric Clapton \u2014 and photographed icons like Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan (and, yeah, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-beatles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-beatles\" data-tag=\"the-beatles\">the Beatles<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From the 1970s until her death in 1998 at 56 from breast cancer, Linda turned her camera to her home life. The new book <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/35nmyBv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><i>Linda McCartney: The Polaroid Diaries <\/i><\/a>features intimate snapshots of the McCartneys, many of which were shot at their farm in Cambeltown, Scotland. \u201cShe would just see things,\u201d Paul writes in the book\u2019s introduction. \u201cMany of her photos, it\u2019s just that one click. You\u2019ve got to recognize when a great photo is happening in front of you. And then you\u2019ve got to snap it at exactly the right moment\u2026And she did that so many times that it always impressed me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Polaroids, which range from the early Seventies to the mid-Nineties, includes a hilarious shot of Paul brushing his teeth and Linda taking a selfie with a young Stella. \u201cI think what we\u2019re seeing with this book is a more private side to her work,\u201d editor Reuel Golden and former editor of the&nbsp;British Journal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/photography\/\" id=\"auto-tag_photography\" data-tag=\"photography\">Photography<\/a>&nbsp;tells Rolling Stone. \u201cIt\u2019s reflective of her eye and her vision, but it\u2019s on a slightly more candid, intimate\u2026 It\u2019s a way of her expressing her relationship with her family. And I think you see that very much, her extraordinary, famous family \u2014 but appear refreshingly normal from these photos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Images of Linda\u2019s friends also appear,&nbsp;like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/qa-adam-ant-on-returning-to-music-from-bipolar-disorder-246163\/\">Adam Ant<\/a> and Pretenders frontwoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chrissie-hynde\/\">Chrissie Hynde<\/a>. \u201cThey often, like a demo tape, capture the vibe better than a proper recording,\u201d Hynde writes in book\u2019s forward. She was one of the last people Linda photographed, in a portrait shot at Linda and Paul\u2019s home.
