{"id":973998,"date":"2019-12-11T14:27:25","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T21:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=925552"},"modified":"2019-12-11T14:27:25","modified_gmt":"2019-12-11T21:27:25","slug":"jenny-lewis-jackson-browne-jonathan-wilson-team-for-lively-lape-lanmou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/jenny-lewis-jackson-browne-jonathan-wilson-team-for-lively-lape-lanmou\/","title":{"rendered":"Jenny Lewis, Jackson Browne, Jonathan Wilson Team for Lively \u2018Lap\u00e9 Lanmou\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/JennyLewis.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jenny-lewis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jenny-lewis\" data-tag=\"jenny-lewis\">Jenny Lewis<\/a> and producer\/songwriter Jonathan Wilson have teamed with Sanba Zao, Paul Beaubrun and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jackson-browne\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jackson-browne\" data-tag=\"jackson-browne\">Jackson Browne<\/a> for a new song, \u201cLap\u00e9 Lanmou (Peace and Love).\u201d The track will appear on the upcoming benefit album, <i>Let the Rhythm Lead: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/haiti\/\" id=\"auto-tag_haiti\" data-tag=\"haiti\">Haiti<\/a> Song Summit, Vol. 1<\/i>, out January 31st, 2020 from Artists for Peace and Justice via Arts Music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The bustling song, whose title means \u201cPeace and Love\u201d in Creole, arrived with an equally lively video in which the musicians perform the song in Haiti alongside a crowd of revelers, dancers and singers. The clip captures the mood of the song, which Beaubrun described as \u201ca spiritual awakening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cHaitians along with many others across the globe have been saying [\u2018Lap\u00e9 Lanmou\u2019] for a long time,\u201d Beaubrun added. \u201cIt\u2019s about peace, love and unity amongst us all and how we will never collectively move forward as one without it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Wilson said \u201cLap\u00e9 Lanmou\u201d began as a piano melody that had been kicking around his head and was later fleshed out with the other musicians during the Song Summit project in Haiti. \u201cThe guitars are a wonderful mixture of West African and Flamenco, the vocals are traditional Vodou call and response by the Haitian legend Sanba Zao, and Jenny Lewis adds her amazing voice in the \u2018White Ribbon\u2019 chorus,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cThis was one of the most special projects I\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Browne added of the track: \u201cThis song is the last song we recorded in Haiti, and it contains all the mystery and excitement that we felt being there. The conversation between the African guitar and the Flamenco tres gives way to a full Vodou call and response, which surprised me then \u2013 and it surprises me now.
