Following a year on the film festival circuit, the film is now available on digital streaming services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBlack and white kids were united through their love of music and style; invariably, a lot of that music was the Trojan stuff,\u201d Letts said of the famed Jamaican label that boasted artists like Jimmy Cliff, the Upsetters, the Maytals, Desmond Dekker and more. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m what you call first-generation British-born black. We really didn\u2019t know where we fit in, and then we looked at Jamaica \u2014 we were of Jamaica, but we weren\u2019t quite Jamaican either \u2014 so it took a long time for this \u2018black and British\u2019 to mean something.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Letts served as videographer for the Clash, who were deeply inspired by reggae, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">before co-founding Big Audio Dynamite with Clash guitarist Mick Jones. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cEarly Jamaican music, for my parents, it would have kind of reminded them of back home, a place they\u2019d like to return to,\u201d Letts added. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBut the music that was evolving out of ska and rocksteady, that would eventually form a large part of the Trojan catalog, is the soundtrack to my generation, and we weren\u2019t going anywhere.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records<\/em> also features interviews with Lee \u201cScratch\u201d Perry, the Specials\u2019 Neville Staple, Marcia Griffiths, Dandy Livingstone, Lloyd Coxsone and more.
