Phoebe Bridgers<\/a> has shared her rendition of Simon & Garfunkel\u2019s<\/a> \u201c7 O\u2019Clock News\/Silent Night,\u201d<\/a> featuring Fiona Apple<\/a> and The National<\/a> frontman Matt Berninger.<\/p>\n

Like the original 1966 folk track, Bridgers combines the classic Christmas<\/a> song \u201cSilent Night\u201d with a reading from a typical nightly newscast \u2014 only this time, the headlines are pulled straight from 2019, with mentions of the abortion debate, sexting and the Trump White House. Apple harmonizes with Bridgers on the \u201cSilent Night\u201d portions, while Berninger plays the role of \u201cthe newscaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Holidays to everyone whose family has been literally or figuratively torn apart by Donald Trump,\u201d Bridgers said in a statement. \u201cAnd to my racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, hypocritical family members, fuck you. Thanks Fiona, Matt, Simon and Garfunkel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c7 O\u2019Clock News\/Silent Night\u201d is Bridgers\u2019 third annual holiday release, following \u201cHave Yourself a Merry Little Christmas\u201d<\/a> in 2017 and \u201cChristmas Song\u201d<\/a> in 2018. It\u2019s also her second collaboration with Berninger, after featuring on his first solo single, \u201cWalking on a String,\u201d<\/a> this past October.<\/p>\n

Over the past year and a half, Bridgers has toured with her indie group supergroup Boygenius (with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus) and with Conor Oberst as part of their Better Oblivion Community Center project. She\u2019ll be opening for The National in Japan and Australia in spring 2020.<\/p>\n
