David Byrne<\/a> has shot down rumors of a Talking Heads<\/a> reunion, days after an unverified \u201cofficial\u201d Instagram account tied to the long-dormant band sparked hope among fans.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, fans first became aware of the launch of @talkingheadsofficial<\/a>, which touted itself as the \u201cOfficial Instagram account for Talking Heads. The Instagram, which hadn\u2019t posted any content yet, also linked to what was billed as the band\u2019s \u201cofficial merchandise\u201d page at merchandise outlet Hi Fidelity Entertainment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following Rage Against the Machine\u2019s unexpected reunion announcement on an unverified Instagram account<\/a>, Talking Heads fans began to suspect a similar declaration was afoot; at press time, @talkingheadsofficial has grown to 16,800 followers, up from less than 1,000 earlier in the week.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, in a statement to Rolling Stone<\/em>, Byrne says of the Instagram account, \u201cI have never heard of this, I don\u2019t know what it is or who is doing it, so clearly it can\u2019t be a \u2018official\u2019 talking heads account. Whatever plans others in the band may have is strictly their own business and I wish them well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Drummer Chris Frantz also seemed perplexed by the Instagram\u2019s sudden appearance. After one fan on Frantz\u2019s Facebook page inquired about the Instagram and a possible reunion, the drummer responded, \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019d like to know.\u201d Elaborating further to Rolling Stone<\/em>, Frantz and Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club bandmate Tina Weymouth also shot down any reunion talk. \u201cWe were made aware of the Instagram account a few days ago as it was brought to life by someone who works with [Talking Heads drummer] Jerry [Harrison],\u201d the duo say. \u201cWe have not even talked about this internally yet. We are all currently happily working on our own projects and there are no plans for a Talking Heads reunion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, the account was created by Harrison\u2019s manager to coincide with a 40th anniversary tour of the group\u2019s 1980 landmark Remain in Light <\/em>set to kick off next July. (Neither Harrison nor Hi Fidelity Entertainment CEO Howard Schomer immediately replied to a request for comment.)<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2018, Byrne appeared resolute about not reuniting the group in an interview with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>.<\/em> \u201cThere\u2019s a lot to that. I see what happens with other people when they do their reunions \u2013 and then it turns into a second reunion and a third reunion,\u201d Byrne said. \u201cWith someone like the Pixies, it\u2019s different \u2013 they\u2019re getting the audience now that they deserved ages ago. But with a lot of them, it just seems like you don\u2019t have anything new to say, and you go, \u201cOK, this is just some kind of nostalgia exercise.\u201d And I\u2019m not interested in that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The four main members of Talking Heads last performed together at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2002.<\/p>\n
