A settlement has been reached in the Tom Petty<\/a> estate battle between the rock legend\u2019s widow and his two daughters from a previous marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n

This past spring \u2014 Petty\u2019s daughters Adria Petty and Annakim Violette \u2014 sued<\/a> Dana York Petty for $5 million after claiming that the widow superseded the daughters\u2019 rights to \u201cequal participation\u201d over decisions involving the singer\u2019s estate and catalog. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, legal documents obtained by Rolling Stone<\/em> show that both parties, as well as Petty\u2019s long-time manager Anthony Dimitriades, reached a \u201csettlement agreement\u201d on December 10th in regard to the estate battle. Details of the settlement were not revealed and lawyers for both parties did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The estate disagreement reportedly impacted the release of the posthumous collection An American Treasure<\/em> and scuttled<\/a> a planned 25th anniversary edition of Petty\u2019s acclaimed 1994 album Wildflowers<\/em><\/a>; the status of that box set reissue remains unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alex Weingarten, an attorney for Petty\u2019s daughters, said in a statement to Rolling Stone <\/i>at the time, \u201cTom Petty wanted his music and his legacy to be controlled equally by his daughters, Adria and Annakim, and his wife, Dana. Dana has refused Tom\u2019s express wishes and insisted instead upon misappropriating Tom\u2019s life\u2019s work for her own selfish interests. After countless efforts to resolve this matter amicably and out of court, we could no longer stand idly by and watch Dana disrespect Tom\u2019s wishes, his music and his legacy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dana Petty\u2019s attorney Adam Streisand countered in a statement: <\/i>\u201cThis misguided and meritless lawsuit sadly demonstrates exactly why Tom Petty designated his wife to be the sole trustee with authority to manage his estate. Dana will not allow destructive nonsense like this to distract her from protecting her husband\u2019s legacy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
