Patil Stadium on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>It was largely a standard Joshua Tree show until the encore section when Indian musical icon A. R. Rahman and his daughters joined the band to perform \u201cAhimsa\u201d, a song he wrote and recorded with the band earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncluded in this country are women, the most precious and rarest potential talent that we have,\u201d Bono told the crowd, \u201cand it\u2019s 50 percent of this stadium. And we say, \u2018Thank you for your patience in dealing with us men.\u2019 Beyond singular figures and women and men, left and right, all religious groupings, work together for change. That\u2019s how we get things going. That\u2019s how we change the world. You, India, are the inspiration for this next song, which we have never played before. A song about the most powerful force in history, India\u2019s greatest gift to the world, ahimsa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201cahimsa\u201d translates from Sanskrit to \u201cnon-violence.\u201d U2 released the song last month in anticipation of their show in India. \u201cAhimsa requires courage and strength,\u201d A.R. Rahman said in a statement at the time. \u201cA quality that is impervious to weapons or power. It\u2019s a mission that is most needed to heal the modern world and it is incredible timing to collaborate with U2, with their amazing legacy, to revive this movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mumbai show also featured the rare \u201cshine like stars\u201d bonus verse at the end of \u201cWith or Without You\u201d and opening act Noel Gallagher joining the band on \u201cDesire.\u201d They closed out the night with \u201cOne\u201d with both Gallagher and Rahman back on the stage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The<em> Joshua Tree 2019<\/em> tour also included stops in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Singapore. U2\u2019s future plans are unclear now that it is over.
