It took Billie Eilish<\/a> 34 \u201cDuh\u201ds to craft her hit song, \u201cBad Guy\u201d \u2014 or at least that many takes of the word. And all that repetition paid off: Eilish recently garnered six Grammy nominations<\/a>, including \u201cBad Guy\u201d for Record and Song of the Year and When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? <\/i>for Album of the Year.<\/p>\n

Eilish and her producer-brother, Finneas<\/a>, shared the process they went through to craft \u201cBad Guy\u201d at Finneas\u2019 California home and how they ultimately achieved \u201cstupiosity.\u201d<\/p>\n

They explained their studio setups in their parents\u2019 houses and how they incorporated patterns to craft the layered, distinctive effects. \u201cOne of the reason why we left the humming in the beginning is the way the bass sounds, you could think it\u2019s in a different key. \u2026 Finneas would often take it out, but I\u2019d go, \u2018No, no, no,’\u201d Eilish says.<\/p>\n

They also reveal the reasoning behind the very quirky \u201cInvisalign\u201d intro and explain how Plants Vs. Zombies<\/em> and Wizards of Waverly Place<\/em> both figure into the track.<\/p>\n

Finneas takes gentle jabs at Billie\u2019s perfectionism when it came to enunciating the lyrics, such as \u201cwhite shirt,\u201d and how she needed it to be \u201cright\u201d \u2014 even when it came to the breaths being \u201cexactly the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m actually so shocked and happy that people like it the way that it is,\u201d Billie admits. \u201cThe thing we were most worried about was the chorus, and having it have no hook.\u201d<\/p>\n
