Perhaps it\u2019s because, despite being all about Ringo, it was written by long-time All-Starr Band member Colin Hay. Or maybe it\u2019s the fact that the chorus comes from a refrain Ringo often throws out at live shows. Or maybe it\u2019s simply because the song is <em>fun<\/em> \u2014 my husband and I often throw up the peace sign while dancing to it in the car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell I\u2019ve seen it all from the mountains of Napal to Reno, Nevada,\u201d Ringo boasts, \u201cI\u2019ve taken all the falls, I was climbing up the walls and now it doesn\u2019t matter\/Nothing stays the same, but I\u2019m still in the game\/What\u2019s my name? Ringo!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s My Name?,<\/em> on the whole, doesn\u2019t take itself seriously in almost delirious fashion. It\u2019s the sound of a klatch of seasoned performers letting loose. Joe Walsh ambles in on the stomping \u201cGotta Get Up to Get Down\u201d to deliver a sprightly, absurd rap: \u201cEverybody\u2019s on the Internet, what\u2019s up with that\/Your body just waitin\u2019 for your brain to come back.\u201d Even Macca makes an appearance, teaming up with Ringo for a rendition of John Lennon\u2019s \u201cGrow Old With Me,\u201d one of the last songs Lennon wrote before his death. It eventually appeared on his posthumous 1984 album with Yoko Ono, <em>Milk and Honey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sang it the best that I could,\u201d Starr said of the recording in a statement. \u201cI do well up when I think of John this deeply. And I\u2019ve done my best. We\u2019ve done our best. The other good thing is that I really wanted Paul to play on it, and he said yes. Paul came over and he played bass and sings a little bit on this with me. So John\u2019s on it in a way. I\u2019m on it and Paul\u2019s on it. It\u2019s not a publicity stunt. This is just what I wanted. And the strings that Jack arranged for this track, if you really listen, they do one line from [George Harrison\u2019s] \u2018Here Comes The Sun.\u2019 So in a way, it\u2019s the four of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Coming up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-beatles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-beatles\" data-tag=\"the-beatles\">the Beatles<\/a>, Ringo is usually known as a drummer first, songwriter second \u2014 at least compared to Lennon and McCartney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to write songs and I\u2019d present it to the boys, and they would be rolling on the floor laughing, because I\u2019d just rewritten another song and hadn\u2019t noticed it!\u201d he recently told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/dave-grohl-ringo-starr-interview-musicians-on-musicians-902778\/\">Dave Grohl<\/a> in <em>Rolling Stone\u2019<\/em>s&nbsp;Musicians on Musicians issue.<\/p>\n<p>Still, he\u2019s always had a knack for making lighthearted music that somehow keeps you coming back \u2014 \u201cOctopus\u2019 Garden\u201d is a prime example.
