{"id":974124,"date":"2019-12-19T08:30:39","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T15:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=929339"},"modified":"2019-12-19T08:30:39","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T15:30:39","slug":"yellowcard-torn-but-proceeding-with-juice-wrld-lucid-dreams-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/yellowcard-torn-but-proceeding-with-juice-wrld-lucid-dreams-lawsuit\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellowcard \u2018Torn\u2019 But \u2018Proceeding\u2019 With Juice WRLD \u2018Lucid Dreams\u2019 Lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/10371045y.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/juice-wrld-dead-obit-923765\/\">the death<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/juice-wrld\/\" id=\"auto-tag_juice-wrld\" data-tag=\"juice-wrld\">Juice WRLD<\/a> on December 8th, punk band Yellowcard still plan to proceed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/yellowcard-sue-juice-wrld-lucid-dreams-holly-wood-died-copy-902142\/\">a copyright infringement lawsuit<\/a> over the rapper\u2019s hit \u201cLucid Dreams.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the $15 million lawsuit filed in October, Yellowcard accused Juice WLRD\u2019s Sting-sampling single of using the melody of the band\u2019s 2006 song \u201cHolly Wood Died\u201d \u201cin a manner that is easily recognizable to the ordinary observer.\u201d \u201cLucid Dreams\u201d is \u201cnot only substantially similar to [\u2018Holly Wood Died\u2019], but in some places virtually identical,\u201d Yellowcard\u2019s lawyer Richard Busch \u2014 who also represented the Marvin Gaye estate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/robin-thicke-pharrell-lose-multi-million-dollar-blurred-lines-lawsuit-35975\/\">the \u201cBlurred Lines\u201d case<\/a> \u2014 said at the time.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a legal notice filed one day after Juice WRLD\u2019s death at the age of 21, Yellowcard \u2014 who released \u201cHolly Wood Died\u201d when the rapper was eight years old \u2014 made clear their intention to pursue the legal matter by extending a deadline for defendants to respond to the lawsuits from December 9th until February 4th, 2020. Busch did not immediately respond to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFirst of all, we were as shocked and saddened by Juice WRLD\u2019s death as everyone else. It is a tragic loss to his family, his fans, and to the music world at large, and we understand why people may be confused about the decision to continue with this lawsuit,\u201d Busch\u2019s King &amp; Fallow law firm said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/legal-and-management\/8546741\/yellowcard-juice-wrld-lucid-dreams-lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a statement to <em>Billboard<\/em><\/a> Wednesday following news of Yellowcard\u2019s plan to proceed with the lawsuit. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMy clients are certainly torn about proceeding, and understand the optics involved.
