Ed Sheeran<\/a> is dropping his New Year\u2019s resolutions early. Tuesday, he announced that he\u2019s planning to take a break from social media \u2014 and work \u2014 to \u201ctake a breather to travel, write and read. I\u2019ll be off all social media until it\u2019s time to come back,\u201d he wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Divide<\/em> era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it\u2019s all over it\u2019s time to go out and see more of the world,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I\u2019ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheeran has been going hard since releasing Divide<\/em> in 2017<\/a>, which boasted a Number One hit, \u201cShape of You.\u201d The album\u2019s 2018 tour also earned more than any global jaunt in the past 30 years, as of that year<\/a>. At the time, the tour sold 4,860,482 tickets across 53 cities and 94 shows for an all-time record gross of $432 million.<\/p>\n

Sheeran took a similar break after winning the Grammy for Song of the Year in 2016 for \u201cThinking Out Loud,\u201d off 2014\u2019s Multiply<\/em>. In a previous interview with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Sheeran detailed how he skipped the various afterparties and hopped a plane to Iceland, then rural Japan, to \u201ceat weird food, soak in the hot springs and ski,\u201d he said. At the time, Elton John \u2014 who signed the singer to his management company in 2011 \u2014 told Rolling Stone<\/em> that Sheeran\u2019s travels \u201crefreshed his soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

In July, Sheeran released No. 6 Collaborations Project<\/em>, the follow-up to 2011\u2019s No.5 Collaborations Project, <\/em>an EP that showcased a series of collabs with UK grime artists. No. 6<\/em> boasted a pretty impressive array of artists: Travis Scott, Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Eminem, 50 Cent, Chance the Rapper, Camila Cabello<\/strong><\/a>, Young Thug, Skrillex, Chris Stapleton, Bruno Mars, Stormzy and others.<\/p>\n
