We\u2019ll be rolling these pieces out throughout December.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/conor-oberst\/\" id=\"auto-tag_conor-oberst\" data-tag=\"conor-oberst\">Conor Oberst<\/a> spent the 2010s busier than most of his songwriter peers.&nbsp;He released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/the-peoples-key-124741\/\"><em>The People\u2019s Key<\/em><\/a>, his final album with his band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bright-eyes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bright-eyes\" data-tag=\"bright-eyes\">Bright Eyes<\/a>, in 2011. He dropped an album with his other band, Desaparecidos, in 2015. He released three solo albums \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/upside-down-mountain-93503\/\"><em>Upside Down Mountain<\/em><\/a>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-conor-obersts-ruminations-approaches-midlife-with-intimacy-104316\/\">Ruminations<\/a><\/em> and<em> Salutations<\/em> \u2014 from 2014 to 2017 and also teamed up with indie phenom Phoebe Bridgers to form the folk-pop superduo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/conor-oberst-phoebe-bridgers-better-oblivion-community-center-interview-783474\/\">Better Oblivion Community Center<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019ve been writing songs since I was fucking 13 years old,\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/conor-obersts-new-morning-bright-eyes-hits-nashville-for-solo-lp-192663\/\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2014. \u201cSo much of my younger life was devoted to endless tours and a frantic need to create. But maybe I don\u2019t need to chase every ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oberst reflects on the past 10 years, from watching <em>Peaky Blinders<\/em> to befriending legendary session drummer Jim Keltner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My favorite album of the 2010s was:&nbsp;<\/strong>Phoebe Bridgers\u2019 <em>Stranger in the Alps<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>My favorite song&nbsp;of the 2010s&nbsp;was:&nbsp;<\/strong>Felice Brothers\u2019 \u201cDays of the Years\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hDpA_FBZSrQ?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The artist who had the best decade was:<\/strong> Felice Brothers; they made the best music<\/p>\n<p><strong>My least favorite trend in music this decade was:&nbsp;<\/strong>My iPhone playing \u201cA Punk\u201d every time I plug it in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The TV show I couldn\u2019t stop streaming&nbsp;in the 2010s&nbsp;was:<\/strong>&nbsp;<em>Peaky Blinders<\/em>. I\u2019m in love with Cillian Murphy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The best new slang term of the decade was:<\/strong> Peng. New to me anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The best live show I saw in the 2010s was:&nbsp;<\/strong>Rage Against the Machine at the Palladium in Los Angeles in 2010.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most surprising encounter I had with a fellow artist&nbsp;this decade&nbsp;was:<\/strong>&nbsp;Jim Keltner. We became fast friends and he ending up producing and playing drums on my record <em>Salutations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The misstep I learned the most from in the 2010s was:<\/strong>&nbsp;Thinking there was no way Donald Trump could get elected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The best book I read this decade was:<\/strong> Denis Johnson\u2019s <em>Train Dreams<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Something cool I did this decade that nobody noticed was:<\/strong> Got a dog.
