The first arrived in 1984, while the second appeared on the Norwegian outfit\u2019s 1985 debut album, <i>Hunting High and Low<\/i>. The video for the second version of the song was directed by Steve Barron and used rotoscoping \u2014 a mix of live-action and pencil animation \u2014 to tell a fantastical love story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As a press release for the 4k version of \u201cTake on Me\u201d notes, most music videos from this time were edited in tape format, while this clip was uniquely restored from the original 35mm film reels. A-ha also shared a short side-by-side video to show how the 4k restoration has made the clip more vibrant and crisp.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tETR7dojj34?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Upon its release, \u201cTake on Me\u201d topped the <i>Billboard<\/i> Hot 100 and the video became a mainstay on MTV. Almost 35 years later, the clip\u2019s revolutionary look continues to compel viewers and it\u2019s primed to join a select group of older songs to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. Other pre-2000 tracks to hit the milestone include Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 \u201cNovember Rain,\u201d Nirvana\u2019s \u201cSmells Like Teen Spirit\u201d and Queen\u2019s \u201cBohemian Rhapsody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In November A-ha shared a three-part <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wlTHJJX7QVU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">docuseries<\/a> that delved into the making of \u201cTake on Me,\u201d both the song and video.
