And as we get older, it\u2019s really the most important emotion we have. Love really does make the world go around. You look at this crazy world with all these people, and you think, \u2018How does this work?\u2019 Love, it has to be love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/huey-lewis-and-the-news\/\" id=\"auto-tag_huey-lewis-and-the-news\" data-tag=\"huey-lewis-and-the-news\">Huey Lewis and the News<\/a> wrote \u201cThe Power of Love\u201d for the 1985 film, <i>Back to the Future<\/i>. In the clip, Lewis recalls how the film\u2019s creative team \u2014 producer Steven Spielberg, director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale \u2014 asked him to write a song for the film, explaining that its protagonist, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox), would\u2019ve been a huge Huey Lewis and the News fan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lewis says he was apprehensive at first, telling the trio he\u2019d never written for a movie before and adding that he didn\u2019t want to have to write a song called \u201cBack to the Future.\u201d But the trio told him they simply wanted one of his own songs and the rocker agreed to send them the next track he wrote.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lewis says former guitarist Chris Hayes wrote the lead progression for \u201cThe Power of Love,\u201d after which Lewis took over. \u201cI strapped on that Sony Walkman and went for a little jog, and I wrote the song on that jog,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m in the control room and we\u2019re listening to the vocal and Sean [Hopper], our keyboard player, at the end of the thing he looks at me and says, \u2018You know what? Best thing we\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Elsewhere in the clip, Lewis talks about the distinct brown hue of the \u201cPower of Love\u201d music video while he also recalls how a label executive inspired his&nbsp;<em>Back to the Future<\/em> cameo as a cantankerous teacher who dismisses Marty\u2019s band after they audition for a talent show with \u201cThe Power of Love.\u201d At the end of the clip, Lewis notes that while many of the band\u2019s songs have evolved and changed a little over the years, \u201cThe Power of Love\u201d has stayed the same. \u201cWe got it pretty right the first time,\u201d Lewis says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Huey Lewis and the News will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/huey-lewis-and-the-news-new-song-while-were-young-922572\/\">release their new album, <i>Weather<\/i><\/a>, February 14th.
