{"id":974260,"date":"2020-01-05T07:02:07","date_gmt":"2020-01-05T14:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=933688"},"modified":"2020-01-05T07:02:07","modified_gmt":"2020-01-05T14:02:07","slug":"dave-grohl-reunites-with-nirvana-members-for-special-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/dave-grohl-reunites-with-nirvana-members-for-special-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Grohl Reunites With Nirvana Members For Special Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The surviving members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nirvana\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nirvana\" data-tag=\"nirvana\">Nirvana<\/a> reunited in Los Angeles Saturday for a special one-night-only performance as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dave-grohl\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dave-grohl\" data-tag=\"dave-grohl\">Dave Grohl<\/a> was joined by Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear at the 2019 Art of Elysium Gala, an annual fundraiser that connects artists with children and communities in need.<\/p>\n<p>Playing before an enraptured crowd at the Hollywood Palladium that included everyone from Billy Idol to Bella Hadid, the three tore through a five-song set of Nirvana\u2019s hits, with Beck, St. Vincent and Violet Grohl (Dave\u2019s 13-year-old daughter) taking over lead vocals from the late Kurt Cobain. On the red carpet, Manson said he was excited to be on the same bill as Grohl and company. \u201cI saw Nirvana play with Jane\u2019s Addiction in Miami when they were on the \u2018In Utero\u2019 tour,\u201d he recalled, \u201cand the guys have always been nice to me. I sadly never got to meet Kurt [before he died],\u201d he continued, \u201cbut I\u2019m friends with Courtney\u2026 tentatively,\u201d he added with a smirk.<\/p>\n<p>Other guests, from Moby to X Ambassadors all praised the impact of Nirvana not only on popular music, but on their own careers as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first time you hear Kurt Cobain\u2019s voice you can\u2019t help but connect to it,\u201d said X Ambassadors\u2019 lead singer Sam Harris. \u201cIt\u2019s just got this visceral, powerful feeling that you want to emulate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was 13, Dave [Grohl] married a close family friend of mine and gave me my first drum set,\u201d added drummer Adam Levin. \u201cYou can\u2019t even put into words how incredible his career is; he\u2019s been such an inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_933701\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" readability=\"34\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-933701\" class=\"size-large wp-image-933701\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/AJK_1006-copy.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"January 4, 2020: Dave Grohl &amp; Friends perform at The Art of Elysium Heaven Gala at the Hollywood Palladium\" width=\"1024\" height=\"578\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-933701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">January 4, 2020: Dave Grohl &amp; Friends perform at The Art of Elysium Heaven Gala at the Hollywood Palladium<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As for Moby, he credits Nirvana \u2014 and a couple ex-roommates \u2014 for getting him into rock. \u201cI wasn\u2019t cool, but when I lived in New York in the late 80s and early 90s, I had roommates who were these really cool indie rockers that would play My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana and all that super obscure indie rock of the late 80s,\u201d he explained, adding, \u201cI never met Kurt, but I\u2019m friends with Krist and Dave, which makes it so exciting to see them play together again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was the 13th year of The Art of Elysium\u2019s \u201cHeaven\u201d gala. This year\u2019s theme was \u201cHEAVEN is Rock and Roll,\u201d a theme curated by event partners, WE ARE HEAR, the publishing firm-slash-management and production agency founded by songwriter Linda Perry and music producer Kerry Brown.
