She scored nods in both the Best Actress and Best Original Song categories, making this the third year in row that an actor has been nominated for Best Original Song and in an acting category for the same film.<\/p>\n<p>Like the two previous nominees in both categories, Erivo both performed and co-wrote her nominated song, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/cynthia-erivo-stand-up-music-video-harriet-tubman-909909\/\">\u201cStand Up.\u201d<\/a> &nbsp;The gospel-inspired ballad serves as an anthem to Erivo\u2019s portrayal of Harriet Tubman in the film: \u201cAnd I just might fail, but Lord knows I tried\/Sure as stars fill up the sky\/Stand up\/Take my people with me\/Together we are going to a brand new home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Lady Gaga earned nominations for both Best Actress in <em>A Star Is Born<\/em> and for the film\u2019s signature song \u201cShallow.\u201d In 2018, Mary J. Blige received a Best Supporting Actress nod for <em>Mudbound<\/em> and for her song \u201cMighty River,\u201d becoming the first person ever to be nominated in an acting category and for songwriting at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/academy-awards\/\" id=\"auto-tag_academy-awards\" data-tag=\"academy-awards\">Academy Awards<\/a> in the same year. (Barbra Streisand was the first person to be nominated in both categories, although for different films in different years.)<\/p>\n<p>Erivo\u2019s \u201cStand Up\u201d competes this year against \u201cI Can\u2019t Let You Throw Yourself Away\u201d from <em>Toy Story 4<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/elton-john-taron-egerton-im-gonna-love-me-again-purple-disco-machine-remix-929319\/\">\u201cI\u2019m Gonna Love Me Again\u201d<\/a> from&nbsp;<em>Rocketman<\/em>, \u201cI\u2019m Standing With You\u201d from&nbsp;<em>Breakthrough<\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/panic-at-the-disco-into-the-unknown-frozen-2-916785\/\">\u201cInto the Unknown\u201d<\/a> from&nbsp;<em>Frozen 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Harriet<\/i> marks Erivo\u2019s third major film role; she also has an extensive theater background.
