Soccer Mommy<\/a>, a.k.a. Nashville indie rocker Sophie Allison, has announced her new album C<\/em>olor Theory<\/em>, out February 28th on Loma Vista. She\u2019s also shared a new single, \u201cCircle the Drain,\u201d following previously released tracks \u201cLucy\u201d<\/a> and \u201cYellow Is the Color of Her Eyes.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanna be calm like the soft summer rain on your back,\u201d sings Allison, as the 22-year-old examines an obsessive relationship that does more harm than good. Later she admits, \u201cI\u2019m trying to seem strong for my love\/For my family and friends\/But I\u2019m so tired of faking.\u201d<\/p>\n

The music video<\/a> for the song, above, was directed by Atiba Jefferson and shot in Palm Springs; it features pro-skateboarders Sean Malto, Jake Anderson, Curren Caples and Nicole Hause.<\/p>\n

Color Theory<\/i> is the follow-up LP to Allison\u2019s 2018 breakout record Clean<\/em>, and the tracklist will be divided into three sections: blue, representing sadness and depression; yellow, symbolizing physical and emotional illness; and gray, representing darkness, emptiness and loss.<\/p>\n

Of the new album\u2019s sound, Allison said: \u201cI wanted the experience of listening to C<\/em><\/span>olor<\/em> Theory<\/span><\/i> to feel like finding a dusty old cassette tape that has become messed up over time, because that\u2019s what this album is: an expression of all the things that have slowly degraded me personally. The production warps, the guitar solos occasionally glitch, the melodies can be poppy and deceptively cheerful. To me, it sounds like the music of my childhood distressed and, in some instances, decaying.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Along with her Color<\/em> Theory<\/em> tracks, Allison recently contributed a song<\/a> to the soundtrack of the horror film The Turning<\/em>. She\u2019ll kick off a new international tour<\/a> in March, including a set at South By Southwest.<\/p>\n
