Wilco<\/a>\u2019s label dBpm Records have announced a Daniel Johnston<\/a> vinyl-only live album titled Chicago 2017<\/em><\/a>, out January 31st.<\/p>\n

The songs were culled from a performance on Johnston\u2019s final tour, at Chicago\u2019s Vic Theater on October 20th, 2017, backed by Tweedy: Jeff Tweedy<\/a> and his son Spencer, Darin Gray, James Elkington and Liam Kazar. Also included on the LP is a session from the Loft, Wilco\u2019s studio, that the cult artist \u2014 who died in September<\/a> \u2014 recorded with the band.<\/p>\n

Paired with the announcement is the release of a live version of \u201cWorried Shoes,\u201d one of Johnston\u2019s most beloved songs that first appeared on the 1983 cassette Yip\/Jump Music.<\/em> \u201cI took my lucky break and I broke it in two,\u201d he sings. \u201cPut on my worried shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chicago 2017<\/em> will be limited to 2,000 copies, pressed on black, blue and white splattered vinyl. The proceeds for the vinyl-only release will benefit the Hi, How Are You Project,<\/a> a non-profit organization that encourages conversations about mental health issues while removing the stigma around it. On January 22nd, the non-profit will host its third annual day concert at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, featuring Cage the Elephant, White Denim and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeff Tweedy and Wilco have been incredible ambassadors of Daniel\u2019s music for years,\u201d Tom Gimbel, Johnston\u2019s longtime manager, said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m so glad that this show from Daniel\u2019s last tour was recorded with such care. It\u2019s something fans will be able to enjoy forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is and was only one Daniel,\u201d Tweedy added, \u201cand to be able to work with him and help present his music was a huge honor for me and the band, one for which we are all very thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n
