{"id":974468,"date":"2020-01-16T09:41:15","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T16:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=938754"},"modified":"2020-01-16T09:41:15","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T16:41:15","slug":"green-day-get-sucked-into-the-endless-stream-of-virality-in-new-oh-yeah-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/green-day-get-sucked-into-the-endless-stream-of-virality-in-new-oh-yeah-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Day Get Sucked Into the Endless Stream of Virality in New \u2018Oh Yeah!\u2019 Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/green-day-oh-yeah.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/green-day\/\" id=\"auto-tag_green-day\" data-tag=\"green-day\">Green Day<\/a> find themselves trapped in a tangled web of screens in the video for their new song, \u201cOh Yeah!\u201d from their upcoming album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/green-day-father-of-all-jimmy-kimmel-live-883902\/\"><i>Father of All\u2026<\/i><\/a>, out February 7th via Reprise\/Warner Records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Directed by Malia James, the clip opens with drummer Tr\u00e9 Cool introducing a low-budget YouTube tutorial on how to play \u201cOh Yeah!\u201d which, it turns out, is being watched by a man in his car who accidentally hits frontman Billie Joe Armstrong while pulling into a grocery store parking lot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rather than check in on Armstrong, the fan immediately starts recording a video, setting off a chain-reaction of virality; people watching people do tons of oddball stuff (Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, for instance, appears as a blas\u00e9 security guard too busy staring at his phone to do his job).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The \u201cOh Yeah!\u201d video complements the synth-tinged stomper, which finds Armstrong grappling with celebrity at a time of great turmoil: \u201cEverybody is a star,\u201d he sings, \u201cGot my money and I\u2019m feeling kinda low\/Everybody got a scar\/Ain\u2019t it funny how we\u2019re running out of hope?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the YouTube description for \u201cOh Yeah!\u201d Green Day noted that their track samples Joan Jett\u2019s cover of \u201cDo You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)\u201d from her debut, <i>Bad Reputation<\/i>. The song was originally written by Gary Glitter, the arena rocker and convicted sex offender, so Green Day has promised to donate all royalties from \u201cOh Yeah!\u201d to the International Justice Mission and the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOh Yeah!\u201d follows the previously released <i>Father of All\u2026<\/i> title track, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/green-day-father-of-all-video-watch-887538\/\">arrived last September<\/a>.
