The beat is built around a playful bass line sampled from Galt MacDermot\u2019s 1969 instrumental <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wk_dPAs2hzo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSpace\u201d<\/a> \u2014 yes, the same one previously heard on Busta Rhymes\u2019 first solo hit, 1996\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zEJ6h1S4zhM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWoo Hah!! Got You All in Check\u201d<\/a> \u2014 and the song\u2019s hook interpolates the \u201cGitchi gitchi ya ya\u201d refrain from Labelle\u2019s 1974 hit \u201cLady Marmalade,\u201d delivered in a vocal style that pulls all those elements together into something more reminiscent of classic \u201990s R&amp;B.<\/p>\n<p>On her latest single, \u201cBussit,\u201d Lennox focuses in on that sensibility, building a slow, slinking, sensual song that harkens back to the R&amp;B of 20 or more years ago. Released as part of the deluxe edition of <em>Revenge of the Dreamers III<\/em>, a compilation from J. Cole\u2019s Dreamville imprint, the song calls back to the sounds of Erykah Badu and others while making a strong argument for this D.C.-native singer as an original.<\/p>\n<p>Producers Brilliant Mack and Dijon Stylez furnish simple chords, with few 808s or complex high-hat patterns, leaving room for Lennox\u2019s voice to smoothly coo, bounce, and glide around the track. \u201cI know that you\u2019re into me, about it, then let me see\/Ride, don\u2019t be scared of me, I\u2019m rowdy as they can be,\u201d she sings on the hook, cool and confident as adlibs swirl around her. Ari\u2019s voice is distinct and powerful, never overbearing.
