Robbie Robertson<\/a> walks through the inspiration behind \u201cThe Weight\u201d in a clip from the upcoming documentary, Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band<\/a><\/em><\/a>, in theaters February 21st.<\/p>\n

The clip, shared via Paste Magazine<\/em><\/a>, features Robertson tracing the initial inspiration behind their 1968 classic to his Martin D-28. \u201cOn Martin guitars, it talks about where they\u2019re made,\u201d he states. \u201cAnd they\u2019re made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.\u201d<\/p>\n

He starts singing the opening line (\u201cI pulled into Nazareth\u2026\u201d) before recalling how he traveled from Canada to the Mississippi Delta at age 16. \u201cCharacters and circumstances all started to come back to me\u2026and the whole thing just blended together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The authorized documentary \u2014 based on Robertson\u2019s 2016 memoir Testimony<\/em> \u2014  details the Band\u2019s wild history, from the moment they met Bob Dylan (\u201cBoom! No rules!\u201d) to their legendary Martin Scorsese-directed farewell concert The Last Waltz.<\/em> Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton also appear.<\/p>\n

Once Were Brothers<\/em> premiered at last year\u2019s Toronto International Film Festival<\/a> prior to Scorsese, Ron Howard and Brian Glazer signing on to executive produce.<\/p>\n

The documentary is just one of the many projects Robertson has worked on in the last year. He penned the score for Scorsese\u2019s The Irishman<\/em><\/a>, released his sixth solo LP Sinematic<\/em><\/a> and reissued the Band\u2019s self-titled second album<\/a> for its 50th anniversary.<\/p>\n
