{"id":975691,"date":"2020-03-17T10:09:57","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T16:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=968388"},"modified":"2020-03-17T10:09:57","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T16:09:57","slug":"watch-lamb-of-gods-pandemic-themed-memento-mori-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kfmu\/music-news\/watch-lamb-of-gods-pandemic-themed-memento-mori-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Lamb of God\u2019s Pandemic-Themed \u2018Memento Mori\u2019 Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Lambofgod.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lamb-of-god\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lamb-of-god\" data-tag=\"lamb-of-god\">Lamb of God<\/a>\u2019s new video for the chest-thumping single \u201cMemento Mori\u201d \u2014 which will appear on their upcoming self-titled LP \u2014 focuses on a man unaware of a deadly virus spreading across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Singer Randy Blythe says he came up with the concept for the clip months before the coronavirus pandemic, but it\u2019s still anxiety-inducing to see the clip\u2019s protagonist falling asleep while the news is on only to watch a legion of demon-zombies \u2014 which look like something out of the horror movie <em>Nightbreed \u2014<\/em> pursuing him as the band plays a mixture of goth-rock and 10-ton heavy-metal riffs.<\/p>\n<p>But the message of the song is clear: Blythe screams, \u201cWake up! Wake up! Wake up!\u201d repeatedly throughout the tune. He says he wrote the song \u201cas a reminder to myself not to be consumed by the omnipresent electronic harbingers of doom that surround us,\u201d referring to cellphones, computers and TV news. The band had planned the release date for the video \u201ca good while ago,\u201d he says, but now he feels the clip is \u201ceerily prescient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile these devices can be useful tools, and it is important to stay informed, it is equally important to remain engaged with the real, physical world we live in, not just digitally filtered representations of reality,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cI wrote the narrative music video treatment a few months ago to illustrate how warped and myopic our mental states can become when we fail to remain engaged with that reality \u2014 if all you pay attention to is catastrophe, then soon you will begin to see monsters everywhere you look. \u2026 Music has always been there for me, raising my spirits during hard times, and it is my hope that this song\u2019s positive message will do the same for fans of our music right now and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>With the video release, Blythe also commented on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it relates to the song. \u201cPrecautions need to be taken by <em>everyone<\/em> in order to protect those most at risk \u2014 the elderly, infirm and immunocompromised,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is indeed a scary time, but in this hyper-connected age with its 24\/7 never-ending news cycle of atrocity, outrage and lurid clickbait headlines (not to mention ill-informed lunatics running amok and spreading misinformation and panic on social media), it is all too easy to lose sight of the fact that life is still carrying on and good things do in fact still happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band previously released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lamb-of-god-checkmate-video-new-album-948255\/\">video for \u201cCheckmate,\u201d<\/a> another song that will appear on <em>Lamb of God<\/em>, which is due out May 8th. The group is hoping to hit the road in June for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/megadeth-lamb-of-god-north-american-tour-dates-950157\/\">a co-headlining tour<\/a> with Megadeth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I had a crystal ball, I would say we\u2019re definitely going to be going out with Megadeth,\u201d Blythe said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/music.apple.com\/us\/post\/idsa.c6016c00-655c-11ea-b2d1-512d647dc3e4?app=music&amp;ign-itsct=con_zanelowe_newmusicdaily_null&amp;ign-itscg=80029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">interview with Zane Lowe<\/a> on Apple Music Tuesday. \u201cAnd I\u2019m a positive guy. I\u2019m hoping that that will still be the case. As of right now, I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s the plan to do it. We haven\u2019t canceled anything. We don\u2019t plan on canceling anything. But if municipalities will not give us a license to have a concert, there\u2019s nothing we can do about it.
