The clip proceeds to show Bennington\u2019s lyrics comforting her. \u201cMaybe things will get better, maybe things will look brighter,\u201d he screams in the chorus. And over moody strumming, he offers, \u201cSometimes people surprise you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chester-benningtons-last-days-linkin-park-singers-mix-of-hope-heaviness-124862\/\">the singer\u2019s death by suicide in 2017<\/a>, he had reconnected with his former bandmates and had concocted a plan to re-record the group\u2019s hard-to-find back catalogue. The group\u2019s drummer, Sean Dowdell, decided recently to move forward with the project and he and his bandmates cut new music to Bennington\u2019s vocals for what will be <em>Amends<\/em>, an album whose release date was pushed back to June 26th amid coronavirus concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChester was already a masterful lyricist at the age of 18, when he wrote this song (which was initially recorded when he was 21),\u201d Dowdell said in a statement about \u201cSometimes.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve said this in prior interviews but this is one of those songs that when I hear it now, I recognize the pain Chester was living with even more acutely now that I\u2019m an adult. As so many of Chester\u2019s lyrics do, this message in this song, that bad things happen and that things will get better, resonates in an entirely different way with the current crisis we are all living through, and brings a message of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>The band previously issued videos for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/grey-daze-sickness-chester-bennington-948311\/\">\u201cSickness\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chester-bennington-grey-daze-938699\/\">\u201cWhat\u2019s in the Eye.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, Dowdell and Bennington\u2019s widow, Talinda, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/chester-bennington-grey-daze-amends-album-945384\/\">spoke with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> about the album and the insights it has brought to them posthumously. \u201cI never realized until he passed how dark our lyrics were, and I know that sounds foolish,\u201d Dowdell said. \u201cI just had never thought of it that way. Looking back at it now, a lot of this stuff is really prophetic as to what happened in life. It kind of makes me sad when I think about some of those lyrics that we wrote together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a formal way of making an album, the way the other studio albums he made were,\u201d Talinda said. \u201cWhen you have millions of dollars behind you from massive record labels, you have to perform in a certain way.
