Actresses Awkwafina<\/a><\/strong> and Laverne Cox<\/a><\/strong> just announced the nominations<\/a> for the 2019 SAG Awards<\/strong>\u2014and, as always, Hollywood is already buzzing about some of the snubs and surprises.<\/p>\n

Damien Chazelle<\/strong>‘s First Man<\/em>, starring Ryan Gosling<\/a><\/strong> as Neil Armstrong<\/strong>, continued its uneven award season streak. After receiving 10 nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards\u2014and only two nominations at the Golden Globe Awards<\/a>\u2014the film is being recognized in zero categories.<\/p>\n

Other films that received zero nominations included Ari Aster<\/strong>‘s Hereditary<\/em>, Bo Burnham<\/strong>‘s Eighth Grade<\/em>, Matthew Heineman<\/strong>‘s A Private War<\/em>, Barry Jenkins<\/strong>‘ If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>, Boots Riley<\/strong>‘s Sorry to Bother You<\/em> and Paul Schrader<\/strong>‘s First Reformed<\/em>. Some of those films received recognition<\/a> from other award shows, including the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Steve McQueen<\/strong>‘s Widows<\/em>, which was pushed as an early award contender, was ignored\u2014just as it was when the Critics’ Choice Awards<\/a> and Golden Globe Awards nominations came out in the last six days. At this point, it seems unlikely it will receive an Oscar nomination next month.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Mainstream movies took a hit, too. Crazy Rich Asians<\/em> received a single nomination in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category, while Constance Wu<\/a><\/strong> didn’t make the cut for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture. Similarly, Black Panther<\/em> received just two nominations\u2014none of which went to Chadwick Boseman<\/a><\/strong> or Michael B. Jordan<\/a><\/strong>, who’ve both been recognized individually before.<\/p>\n

The ABBA<\/strong>-inspired Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again<\/em>, which received three People’s Choice Awards nominations<\/a>, failed to secure any SAG Award nominations; similarly, it was skipped over by the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. Ol Parker’<\/strong>s popular sequel starred Christine Baranski<\/strong>, Pierce Brosnan<\/a><\/strong>, Cher<\/a><\/strong>, Dominic Cooper<\/strong>, Alexa Davies<\/strong>, Josh Dylan<\/strong>, Colin Firth<\/a><\/strong>, Andy Garc\u00eda<\/strong>, Jeremy Irvine<\/strong>, Lily James<\/a><\/strong>, Julie Walters<\/strong>, Amanda Seyfried<\/a><\/strong>, Stellan<\/strong> Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong>, Hugh Skinner<\/strong>, Meryl Streep<\/a><\/strong> and Jessica Keenan Wynn<\/strong> and earned $393.7 million.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

On the Basis of Sex<\/em>, Mimi Leder<\/strong>‘s biographical drama about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg<\/strong>, was overlooked yet again; the movie had previously been ignored by the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. The buzzy biopic, premiering nationwide Dec. 25, stars Kathy Bates<\/strong>, Armie Hammer<\/a><\/strong>, Felicity<\/strong> Jones<\/strong>, Justin Theroux<\/a><\/strong> and Sam Waterston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bradley Cooper<\/a><\/strong>‘s A Star Is Born<\/em> leads this year’s SAG Awards nominations with four.<\/p>\n

No matter what happens, it’s bound to be an eventful night.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Alan Alda<\/strong> will receive the SAG Life Achievement Award, recognizing his career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments. Harry Shum Jr.<\/strong> will serve as the SAG Awards ambassador<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
