There’s a new Miss Universe in town!<\/p>\n

Miss Philippines Catriona Gray<\/strong>\u00a0was crowned the winner of the 2018 Miss Universe pageant, which was held Sunday in Bangkok, Thailand. Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green<\/strong> was the first runner-up and Miss Venezuela\u00a0Sthefany Guti\u00e9rrez\u00a0<\/strong>was the second runner-up.<\/p>\n

Steve Harvey<\/a><\/strong> and Ashley Graham<\/a><\/strong> hosted the evening and were joined onstage by a special performance by Ne-Yo<\/a><\/strong>. Harvey returned as the emcee of the evening once again, despite his famous flub a few years ago after accidentally announcing the wrong winner<\/a> at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant. Graham co-hosted the show last year as well.<\/p>\n

The women from around the world vying for the coveted tiara participated in a number of events, including a swimsuit and evening gown presentation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Graham was joined by television personalities Carson Kressley<\/strong> and Lu Sierra<\/strong>\u00a0as they gave updated commentary throughout the evening.<\/p>\n

Harvey announced in his opening speech that for the first time ever, there was an all-female selection committee for this year’s pageant. The committee comprised of fashion designer Mo’nique<\/a><\/strong> Lhuillier,\u00a0<\/strong>Miss Universe 1988\u00a0Bui Simon,<\/strong> Miss Universe 1992\u00a0Michelle McLean,\u00a0<\/strong>Women’s March co-founder Janaye Ingram, SWAAY Media founder Iman Oubou, CEO of CulturIntel\u00a0Lili Gil Valetta\u00a0<\/strong>and architect\u00a0Richelle Singson-Michael.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

South Africa’s\u00a0Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters<\/strong> took home the crown in 2017<\/a>\u00a0and was there to present\u00a0<\/strong>Gray\u00a0with the iconic sash and crown. Miss Universe 2017 was only Nel-Peters’ third pageant! She spoke to E! News<\/a> in November 2017 about why these types of events and shows are special. She said, “You can be beautiful and you can be smart and you can make a meaningful difference in your community, in your country, in your world.”<\/p>\n

She has since been linked<\/a> to former NFL star and current MLB player Tim Tebow<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
