To say that&#8217;s a lot of TV would be an understatement. That&#8217;s a TON of TV.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time, streaming platforms produced more TV than broadcast. It&#8217;s the wild west out there, and we watched so much of it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s impossible for any one person to watch the approximate 495 scripted shows out there (and reality shows? Forget it!), but among the\u00a0hundreds\u00a0we did get to watch, these were the ones that we loved the most. What could&#8217;ve been a grim tale of the lives of marginalized LGBTQ community during the AIDS crisis was anything but. <em>Pose<\/em>, from <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong>, <strong>Brad Falchuk<\/strong> and <strong>Steven Canals<\/strong>, had a vibrant first season full of life, show-stopping fashions and performances sure to give you chills (we&#8217;re talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6vurvR6X7lE\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Home&#8221;<\/a> by <strong>Billy Porter<\/strong> and <strong>MJ Rodriguez<\/strong>). Upon announcement, Pose made headlines by having the biggest presence of transgender talent in a series regular cast, but now it&#8217;s making headlines for being one of the best shows to grace our TVs in 2018.<em>\u2014Chris Harnick<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content__image post-content__image--centered\" readability=\"39\">\n<div id=\"photo-922322\" class=\"v-gallery__post\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/996852\/these-are-the-best-tv-shows-of-2018?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&amp;utm_source=eonline&amp;utm_medium=rssfeeds&amp;utm_campaign=rss_topstories\" class=\"image--full lazy-load__img js-lazy-load\" data-width=\"877\" data-height=\"650\" data-src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/201862\/rs_1024x759-180702154800-1024-GinaRodriguez-JustinBaldoni-JanetheVirgin.jpg?fit=inside|900:650&amp;output-quality=90\" data-id=\"922322\" alt=\"Gina Rodriguez, Justin Baldoni, Jane the Virgin\"\/><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"v-gallery__title\"><em>Jane the Virgin<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>The CW dramedy always manages to be sweet and funny while also casually pulling off some of the best twists and turns on TV, and that was no more true than during the fourth season, when it finally seemed as if Jane could truly be happy with Rafael after her husband&#8217;s death\u2026only for that husband to show right back up again in the last moments of the finale. The surprises always manage to feel earned, no matter how insane they are, and that&#8217;s not an easy thing to do on any show. Christine Baranski popping balloons with an elegant brooch? Christine Baranski doing shrooms? Christine Baranski giving Alan Alda the finger? Christine Baranski waltzing into <strong>Audra McDonald<\/strong>&#8216;s office and simply saying, &#8220;Hey. And f\u2014k you,&#8221; with a smile on her face? On <em>The Good Fight<\/em>&#8216;s brilliant second season. It&#8217;s like they took Caroline Forbes (<em>TVD<\/em>&#8216;s best character, fight me) and made an entire show out of her essence. And that&#8217;s where <em>Schitt&#8217;s Creek<\/em> comes in. The fourth season of the CBC\/Pop comedy from father-son creators and stars <strong>Eugene Levy<\/strong> and <strong>Dan Levy<\/strong> was pitch-perfect in every way. Series star <strong>Catherine O&#8217;Hara<\/strong> has never been better (the way she speaks as Moira Rose should be studied), the writing was sharp and the message at the heart of it all was the perfect antidote to everything else in the world. I am always here for the comforting and award-nominated and award-deserving presence of <strong>Sandra Oh<\/strong>, and maybe next year all the award shows will also recognize the brilliance of <strong>Jodie Comer<\/strong>, who is absolutely incredible in every single way.\u00a0\u2014<em>LP<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You knew Sandra Oh was good, but did you know she was this good? <em>Killing Eve<\/em> let Oh shine. She&#8217;s not here for Satan&#8217;s dumb crap, but she is here to have some fun and support her friends, magical or not, good idea or not. To anybody who Is scoffing at that notion, to anybody who stopped watching midway through a season, stop what you&#8217;re doing. Go back. Watch a season as a whole. You&#8217;ll understand. <em>The Good Place<\/em> is beyond good, it&#8217;s forking fantastic TV. <strong>Ted Danson<\/strong> is aces, as per usual, <strong>Kristen Bell<\/strong> is doing some of the best work of her career, <strong>D&#8217;Arcy Carden<\/strong> is a star, <strong>Manny Jacinto<\/strong> is hilarious, <strong>William Jackson Harper<\/strong> is the emotional core every show wishes they had, and <strong>Jameela Jamil<\/strong> is an expert at being the best.<em>\u2014CH<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is no other show on TV that is this wildly unpredictable with every single episode, and it makes for a viewing experience that I don&#8217;t get very often anymore. I never ever know who they&#8217;re going to go or what strange world they&#8217;re going to be living in next or who there will suddenly be seven of (please, watch the &#8220;Janets&#8221; episode if nothing else), and I&#8217;m never ever disappointed to find out. Come for the jokes, stay for the single-shot scenes that are sure to impress even the biggest cynic.<em>\u2014CH<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content__image post-content__image--centered\" readability=\"40\">\n<div id=\"photo-911741\" class=\"v-gallery__post\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/996852\/these-are-the-best-tv-shows-of-2018?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&amp;utm_source=eonline&amp;utm_medium=rssfeeds&amp;utm_campaign=rss_topstories\" class=\"image--full lazy-load__img js-lazy-load\" data-width=\"877\" data-height=\"650\" data-src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2018419\/rs_1024x759-180519204659-1024x759.brooklyn-nine-nine-melissa-fumero-andy-samberg-lp.51918.jpg?fit=inside|900:650&amp;output-quality=90\" data-id=\"911741\" alt=\"Brooklyn Nine-Nine, season 5 finale\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"image__credits image__credits--right\">Fox<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"v-gallery__title\"><em>Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Even in its last doomed season on Fox, <em>Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em> was still killing it in every way. Rosa came out as bi in the most Rosa way possible and we all cried (in Dec 2017, but still), and the season ended with Jake and Amy&#8217;s horribly ruined and then absolutely perfect toit nups. It 100% deserves its second chance at life on NBC, but if season five had been the end, it wouldn&#8217;t have been a bad way to go. Bravo&#8217;s Big Apple stars know how to put on a good show, even when they&#8217;re not fearing for their lives on a Colombian boat trip (though that did help the entertainment factor of this year). In addition to the aforementioned boat trip, this season gave us a reunion between <strong>Bethenny Frankel<\/strong> and <strong>Jill Zarin<\/strong>, <strong>Luann de Lesseps<\/strong>&#8216; arrest, rehab trip and cabaret debut (that last part gave us <strong>Dorinda Medley<\/strong> yelling &#8220;JOVANI!&#8221; over and over) and apparently the ladies battling a bad case of diarrhea that saw them poop in a bed and on the floor.<em>\u2014CH<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content__image post-content__image--centered\" readability=\"38\">\n<div id=\"photo-966226\" class=\"v-gallery__post\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/996852\/these-are-the-best-tv-shows-of-2018?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&amp;utm_source=eonline&amp;utm_medium=rssfeeds&amp;utm_campaign=rss_topstories\" class=\"image--full lazy-load__img js-lazy-load\" data-width=\"900\" data-height=\"506\" data-src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/20181118\/rs_1024x576-181218194033-1024x576.survivor-season-37-final-lp.121818.jpg?fit=inside|900:650&amp;output-quality=90\" data-id=\"966226\" alt=\"Survivor, Season 37 finale\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"image__credits image__credits--right\">CBS<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"v-gallery__title\"><em>Survivor<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>There is no show I talked about more with multiple coworkers each week than <em>Survivor: David vs. Goliath<\/em>. It was a perfect concept that resulted in some of my favorite characters in recent <em>Survivor<\/em> history. New advantages made it exciting gameplay, but the cast made it truly thrilling. 37 seasons in, that&#8217;s particularly impressive. You would know that if you watched the criminally underrated Getting On, the show that got her two Emmy nominations, and you&#8217;d know that if you watched <em>Claws<\/em>, her TNT drama about nail artists in deep with organized crime in Florida. The second season of the series leaned into the more absurd elements of a show about manicurists in deep with a bisexual crime lord and Russian gangsters, letting <strong>Carrie Preston<\/strong> soar while Nash anchored the dramatic and emotional lifting. <strong>Judy Reyes<\/strong> is over here doing so much while barely saying a word. All the attention wasn&#8217;t on Issa and the Lawrence (<strong>Jay Ellis<\/strong>) hive once the season kicked off, <strong>Natasha Rothwell<\/strong> stole every damn scene as Kelli, from the cupcakes to getting tasered (while on many drugs) and wetting herself. &#8220;Remember me different!&#8221; she said. No. They can do anything. And did so in 2018. From reintroducing Greg (<strong>Skylar Astin<\/strong> in place of <strong>Santino Fontana<\/strong>), to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f-H-qzqQJsw\" target=\"_blank\">not one<\/a>, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9zY7VILVwHA\" target=\"_blank\">two songs<\/a> for all mothers expertly performed by <strong>Donna Lynne Champlin<\/strong> and <strong>Tovah Feldshuh<\/strong>.
