Illustration<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-0\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"39.139925373134\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"20.294776119403\">\n<p>To be a young royal is to be the subject of an endless slew of stories about either how fabulous you are or who you&#8217;re not getting along with.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/meghan_markle\">Meghan Markle<\/a><\/strong> is still undergoing\u00a0trial by fire, the rhapsodic talk of her pregnancy and continuing\u00a0positive effect on the monarchy&#8217;s stodgy image\u00a0intermingling with tales of her estranged family members&#8217; latest opinions and dirt on her relationship with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/kate_middleton\">Kate Middleton<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Kate knows, too, that one day you&#8217;re perfection personified as a future queen and the next you&#8217;ve pissed off PETA.<\/p>\n<p>And this doesn&#8217;t happen to only the British royal family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlotte Casiraghi<\/strong>, the ultra-glamorous daughter of <strong>Princess Caroline\u00a0<\/strong>and granddaughter of the late\u00a0<strong>Princess Grace of Monaco<\/strong>, has been in the publishing business herself and knows just how the rumor cycle works.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"54.861460957179\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9.1435768261965\">\n<p>&#8220;Mademoiselle Charlotte Casiraghi and Monsieur <strong>Dimitri Rassam<\/strong>, harassed by the scandal press, formally deny all unfounded rumors of their separation which are being circulated,&#8221;\u00a0read a <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/charlotte-casiraghi-denies-split-fiance-after-baby-birth\/\" target=\"_blank\">statement released by\u00a0a publicist<\/a> for the couple\u00a0this week in response to a report making the rounds in Britain, France and Spain that\u00a0they had split up, less than three months after welcoming a son together.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"41.684210526316\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2018923\/rs_634x1024-181023111430-634-dimitri-rassam-charlotte-casiraghi-gives-birth-102318.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Dimitri Rassam, Charlotte Casiraghi\" alt=\"Dimitri Rassam, Charlotte Casiraghi\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Pascal Le Segretain\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"25.875338753388\">\n<p>&#8220;The explanation of this cynical and false information is simple: to portray conflict where there is not\u00a0and never was,\u00a0with the goal of monetizing it, because the announcement of a separation always motivates good sales,&#8221; the rep continued, per <em>People<\/em>. &#8220;Given the harmful nature of this rumor for themselves, their children and loved ones, they have agreed to ask their lawyer to initiate all legal proceedings, where possible before criminal courts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/934570\/inside-zara-tindall-s-royal-life-the-queen-s-granddaughter-isn-t-a-princess-but-she-isn-t-exactly-normal-either\" target=\"_blank\">Reminiscent of <strong>Princess Anne<\/strong>&#8216;s daughter, <strong>Zara Tindall<\/strong><\/a>, Casiraghi is a member of Monaco&#8217;s royal family and currently 11th in line to the throne, but does not sport a title and\u00a0has proceeded to live her life not at all out of the spotlight (she\u00a0made\u00a0<em>Vanity Fair<\/em>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/photos\/2014\/07\/the-2006-international-best-dressed-poll#2\" target=\"_blank\">International Best Dressed List<\/a> at 21), but not exactly under the sort of microscope that follows those a bit closer to the crown. (Incidentally, she and Tindall are both accomplished equestriennes, too.)<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Casiraghi&#8217;s family has commanded hearts and minds for\u00a0a century as well, so mass interest in their lives has simply been passed down from generation to generation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"50.358490566038\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"7.6172506738544\">\n<p>Perhaps fascination with the Monaco royals would have remained more of a continental pastime, but that all changed in 1956 when <strong>Prince Rainier III<\/strong> married American actress <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/grace_kelly\">Grace Kelly<\/a><\/strong>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/896747\/some-things-don-t-change-meghan-markle-is-giving-up-acting-to-marry-prince-harry-60-years-after-grace-kelly-quit-to-be-a-princess\" target=\"_blank\">gave up her lofty perch in Hollywood\u00a0for love<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A piercing\u00a0spotlight has been pointed at this\u00a0storied playground for the rich and famous nestled on the French Riviera ever since.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-6\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"43.690909090909\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/20171028\/rs_634x1024-171128143235-634-2grace-kelly-black-white.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Princess Grace Kelly\" alt=\"Princess Grace Kelly\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">REX\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"28.465848042978\">\n<p>Sixty-two years before Meghan Markle confirmed that she was putting her acting career behind her to marry <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_harry\">Prince Harry<\/a><\/strong>, Kelly jolted the world with her announcement that after five prolific years as one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and a year after winning a Best Actress Oscar, she was switching jobs.<\/p>\n<p>She had met Rainier in 1955 when she was in\u00a0the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival and <strong>Olivia de Havilland\u00a0<\/strong>more or less<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>set them up with the help of her second husband,\u00a0<em>Paris Match<\/em> editor <strong>Pierre Galante<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m tempted to think it was destiny,&#8221; de Havilland <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/the-incredible-story-of-how-olivia-de-havilland-introduced-grace-kelly-to-prince-rainier-of-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\">told\u00a0<em>People<\/em><\/a> in 2017. The\u00a0<em>Gone With the Wind<\/em> star actually didn&#8217;t know Kelly personally, but they were all on the same train together and\u00a0&#8220;it was an idea that struck [Pierre] for the first time while dining on the train after he learned Grace Kelly was a fellow passenger.&#8221; Galante and his editor-in-chief,\u00a0Gaston Bonheur, were mainly thinking that getting those two together would make for a magnificent photo opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Grace struck\u00a0me\u00a0on first encounter as a rather reserved, self-possessed, well brought up young woman,&#8221; de Havilland continued.\u00a0They talked &#8220;on the small platform between the dining car and the next carriage when I overtook her to ask if she would agree to a meeting with Prince Rainier.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-8\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"71.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"33\">\n<p>At least Meghan didn&#8217;t need permission to meet <strong>Prince Harry<\/strong> on a blind date. Kelly, however, while perfectly happy to meet the prince, told de Havilland she had to check with MGM first, as she was under contract with the studio and close watch was kept on anything she did in the public sphere. (The loyalty didn&#8217;t always run both ways, as Kelly had once been suspended from MGM for refusing to make a movie with a script she thought was sub-par; she gave her Oscar-winning performance in <em>The Country Girl<\/em> while on loan to Paramount.)<\/p>\n<p>A comedy of errors ensued, from a power outage at her hotel that prevented her from\u00a0blowdrying or otherwise heat-styling her freshly washed hair to, creepily enough, a minor traffic\u00a0accident when a car full of photographers hit the car she was riding in, to Prince Rainier not even being there when she arrived for their 3 p.m. meeting. She proceeded to tour the palace and, when he showed up and offered her a tour, told him she had already\u00a0<em>had<\/em> the tour, thank you.<\/p>\n<p>So Rainier\u2014the only son of Prince Pierre of Monaco, Duke of\u00a0Valentinois, and Monegasque Hereditary Princess,\u00a0Charlotte, Duchess of Valentinois, and the first direct heir to the throne since 1758\u2014asked if she&#8217;d like to see his private zoo. Photographers trailed dutifully behind them as they walked the grounds of the palace, which dates back to the 12th century and was captured by the Grimaldis in 1297. Their engagement was announced on Jan. 5, 1956.<\/p>\n<p>The betrothed couple gave an\u00a0engagement interview and Rainier was the one to answer the question of whether Kelly was done acting. The answer was yes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally,\u00a0still being signed with MGM, she\u00a0agreed to the studio getting exclusive filming rights to her wedding to get out of her contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kelly set sail for Monaco on April 4, 1956, with 60 pieces of luggage; her poodle, Oliver; and her ivory silk and taffeta wedding gown by MGM costume\u00a0designer <strong>Helen Rose<\/strong>, who had worked with Kelly on\u00a0several pictures and went on to dress <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/elizabeth_taylor\">Elizabeth Taylor<\/a><\/strong> in\u00a0<em>Cat on a Hot Tin Roof<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Butterfield\u00a0<\/em><em>8<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-10-img\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"31\">\n<div class=\"post-content__image\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2018415\/rs_1024x759-180515111145-1024-Grace-Kelly-Princess-Wedding.jl.051518.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" border=\"0\" title=\"ESC: Grace Kelly, princess Grace, Wedding\" alt=\"ESC: Grace Kelly, princess Grace, Wedding\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"759\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Gilbert TOURTE\/Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-10\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"36.321554770318\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"15.293286219081\">\n<p>The wedding of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III after their whirlwind-by-any-standard courtship was not just\u00a0<em>the\u00a0<\/em>royal wedding of its day, coming nine years after the future <strong>Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong> married <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_philip\">Prince Philip<\/a><\/strong>, but was deemed the &#8220;wedding of the century.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They had a civil ceremony at the palace on April 18, 1956: &#8220;Miss Kelly, wearing a beige, lace dress with a close-fitting hat, was noticeably nervous throughout the proceedings,&#8221; the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/onthisday\/hi\/dates\/stories\/april\/19\/newsid_2720000\/2720723.stm\" target=\"_blank\">BBC reported<\/a>. (De Havilland did apparently get an invitation, but was pregnant and unable to go.)<\/p>\n<p>And with that, the former Grace Kelly of Philadelphia and Hollywood became\u00a0Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco.<\/p>\n<p>At least 1,500 reporters covered the wedding and Kelly later remarked that they all should have received battle ribbons for their efforts. Rainier recalled, &#8220;We both agreed that we should really have got married in a little chapel in the mountains.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was so much pressure I didn&#8217;t remember it all,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Archives\/1981\/03\/23\/Monacos-Rainier-and-Grace-mark-25th-wedding-anniversary\/7559354171600\/\" target=\"_blank\">reflected to UPI in March 1981<\/a>. &#8220;It was really hectic. I had to go and see a film of the wedding later on to realize what really happened.&#8221; (Thanks to MGM, he had one with all the Hollywood bells and whistles.)<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-13\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"64\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"18\">\n<p>They honeymooned aboard Rainier&#8217;s yacht, the\u00a0<em>Deo Juvante II<\/em>, cruising around the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p>No time was wasted in welcoming their first child, Princess Caroline, on Jan. 23, 1957. <strong>Prince Albert II<\/strong> was born on March 14, 1958 (due to Monaco&#8217;s patriarchal structure, he&#8217;s now the reigning monarch) and <strong>Princess St\u00e9phanie\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the family on Feb. 1965.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s hard to remember <em>not<\/em> being pregnant in those days,&#8221; Kelly later remarked, per James Spada&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Grace Kelly:\u00a0The Secret Lives of a Princess<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-14\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"50.514285714286\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/20171028\/rs_634x1024-171128142316-634-princess-grace-kelly-monaco-family.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Princess Caroline, Princess Grace Kelly, Prince Albert, Princess Stephanie, Prince Rainier III of Monaco\" alt=\"Princess Caroline, Princess Grace Kelly, Prince Albert, Princess Stephanie, Prince Rainier III of Monaco\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Bettmann<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"42.735294117647\">\n<p>She\u00a0considered herself a\u00a0hands-on mother, who of course employed nannies but decided ahead of time to make sure they were around her own age,\u00a0not wanting to be bossed around by anyone older and potentially overbearing.\u00a0Grace&#8217;s father-in-law, Prince Pierre, has told her that Rainier&#8217;s nanny was so domineering, he was never allowed into the nursery to see him and his sister, Antoinette.<\/p>\n<p>A story has been told about Grace, when she couldn&#8217;t get little Caroline to stop biting people, biting her own daughter&#8217;s arm to illustrate what she was doing. It worked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m afraid I&#8217;m very severe at times,&#8221; she once said, per Spada. &#8220;Outsiders might think I&#8217;m\u00a0too hard on the children. But I give them just as much love as I do discipline, and it seems to work out very well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kelly was actually considered not very strict at all, and\u00a0instead would instantly excuse herself from a group if she heard one of her kids needed her, and her son and daughters were frequently seen running about the palace.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/princess-caroline-says-she-and-prince-albert-grew-up-closer-to-nanny-than-to-mom-grace-kelly\/\" target=\"_blank\">told\u00a0Isabelle Riv\u00e8re\u00a0and Peter Mikelbank<\/a>\u00a0for their 2017 book\u00a0<em>Albert II of Monaco, the Man and the Prince<\/em>, that they felt closer to their nanny, Maureen Wood, than to their mother when they were little. &#8220;When [Wood] was leaving\u00a0Roc Agel [the family&#8217;s farm in the hills above Monaco, to go on vacation], Albert and I would yell &#8216;Don&#8217;t go, don&#8217;t go!&#8217; We were sad for days. Most often than not, our mother would end up calling her to ask her to come home earlier than planned.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-15\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"43\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"26\">\n<p>As it turned out, though, being an endlessly captivating full-time royal was not as entirely fulfilling as Grace might have envisioned it being at 26.<\/p>\n<p>In 1961, <strong>Alfred Hitchcock<\/strong>, who had made three films with Kelly, got word that she was interested in starring in\u00a0<em>Marnie<\/em>, a psychological thriller about a kleptomaniac with a traumatic past.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On March 19, 1962, the palace stated that yes, Princess Grace would be making this picture with Hitchcock, but surely that would be her last film. Her salary was reported as everything from $1 million to a percentage of the box office to a badly needed infusion of cash for the royal family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How can she be accused of this when her own family fortune is supposed to be so large?&#8221; Hitchcock said in an interview. &#8220;I think the trouble is that too many people, including the English, love stories about failures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-17\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"66\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"22\">\n<p>Kelly eventually announced that she would donate\u00a0whatever she made to charity, stating, per the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em> of London,\u00a0&#8220;In the same way as some priests or nuns perform common artistic, musical, or sporting tasks, for example, with the aim of raising funds for their work, I feel I am able to return to the cinema for a film with the charitable aim of aiding needy children and young sportsmen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t to be.\u00a0Production was delayed a year so Hitch could finish\u00a0<em>The Birds\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0the plan ultimately unraveled. When Kelly was asked if she would want to be in another film down the road, she told\u00a0<em>Nice Matin<\/em>,\u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t like to say definitely, but it&#8217;s obvious that the same problems as\u00a0<em>Marnie<\/em>\u00a0would arise.&#8221; (The sticking point turned out to be a tax snafu, and her loyalty lay with the crown.)<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-18\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"38.492489270386\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"20.654506437768\">\n<p>Long before the release of the critically panned (and ultimately straight-to-Lifetime) film <em>Grace of Monaco<\/em>, starring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/nicole_kidman\">Nicole Kidman<\/a><\/strong>, Kelly&#8217;s children dismissed the movie\u2014which showed Kelly having deep misgivings about quitting acting for good\u2014outright and said they wanted nothing to do with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It recounts one rewritten and needlessly glamorized page in the history of Monaco and its family with both major historical inaccuracies and a series of purely fictional scenes,&#8221; Caroline, Albert and St\u00e9phanie said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/europe\/monaco\/9806386\/Monacos-Prince-Albert-II-criticises-inaccurate-Grace-Kelly-film.html\" target=\"_blank\">statement in 2013<\/a>. Two weeks before its premiere at Cannes in May 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-monaco-gracekelly-film\/monaco-royals-label-grace-kelly-film-a-farce-idUSKBN0DI1B520140502?feedType=RSS&amp;feedName=entertainmentNews\" target=\"_blank\">they reiterated<\/a> that the movie was based on &#8220;erroneous and dubious historical references&#8221; and the trailer was a &#8220;farce.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Coming to live here and having to behave in a certain way must have been hard for her at first,&#8221; Prince Albert, a fervent\u00a0protector of his mother&#8217;s legacy,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2014\/10\/cary-grant-grace-kelly-dirty-jokes\" target=\"_blank\">told\u00a0<em>People<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in 2014. &#8220;But I never heard her complain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-20\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"16\">\n<p>But controversial treatment of a complicated subject aside, being royalty means that, no matter which country your palace sits in, members of the family can&#8217;t be seen as endorsing anything other than altruism, philanthropy and patriotism, and patronage is one of their few ways of showing which sort of causes are close to their hearts. (Hence, among other things, <strong>Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong> appointing Meghan her successor as patron of the\u00a0National Theatre in London.)<\/p>\n<p>So when Kelly offered to write a foreword for a Hitchcock biography in the 1970s, it was a big deal.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-21\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"39.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"19\">\n<p>&#8220;I am constantly asked to endorse products and to comment on books, or say something about a movie,&#8221; she told\u00a0<em>High Society: The Life of Grace Kelly<\/em> author Donald Spoto in 1975. &#8220;I cannot do that for many reasons. However, in your case I would make an exception.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kelly proceeded to write perhaps the\u00a0least critical six paragraphs ever published about the infamously exacting and\u00a0reputedly manipulative, misogynistic director.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8230;came to know him as a warm and understanding human being,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;Mr. Hitchcock often is reputed to hold actors in disdain. But he actually has a special way with them, and is able to get exactly what he wants in the way of a performance&#8230;Of course, sometimes he merely wears them down until he gets what he wants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-23\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"66.275419545903\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"26.894373149062\">\n<p>After\u00a0<em>Marnie\u00a0<\/em>fell through and <strong>Tippi Hedren<\/strong> went on to star in the film with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/sean_connery\">Sean Connery<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Kelly\u00a0returned to the stage for dramatic readings, narrated some TV specials and documentaries, and made appearances on the small screen as herself. She also pre-taped a segment for the 40th Annual Academy Awards, in 1968. In 1977 an NBC News team came to shoot a special at the palace, but it was extremely scripted-sounding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the camera wasn&#8217;t rolling, she kind of emptied her heart,&#8221; <strong>Lee Grant<\/strong>, who conducted the interview,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/1977-grace-kelly-invited-nbc-815297\" target=\"_blank\">told\u00a0<em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in 2015. &#8220;The truth was, her life was terribly restrained\u2014she was princess of a little closed-off castle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Princess Grace had gone from Hollywood, where she had a carefully constructed public image but could\u00a0technically do and say what she pleased, to again having another tightly controlled image\u00a0but also within the confines of the equivalent of a gilded tower.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The idea of my life as a fairy tale is itself a fairy tale,&#8221; Kelly told Donald Spoto.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-24-img\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"31\">\n<div class=\"post-content__image\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019011\/rs_1024x730-190111163903-1024-princess-diana-grace-charles.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" border=\"0\" title=\"Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Princess Grace Kelly, Monaco Royals\" alt=\"Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Princess Grace Kelly, Monaco Royals\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"730\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Pascal Le Segretain\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-24\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"34.138235294118\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"12.158823529412\">\n<p>And while she and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/princess_diana\">Princess Diana<\/a><\/strong>, whose 1981 wedding she attended with her son Albert, have inevitably been compared over the years, as non-royal but pedigreed women who\u00a0married men they didn&#8217;t spend tons of time getting to know and then became the poster princesses for glamour, iconic taste and changing the way people viewed their respective families forever before meeting tragic fates&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The Monaco royals also started to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/889382\/a-century-of-scandal-the-kennedys-have-no-competition-when-it-comes-to-tragic-destructive-romance\" target=\"_blank\">become Kennedyesque<\/a>, as their dynastic travails mounted in the late &#8217;70s and &#8217;80s.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-25\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"48.163803680982\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019011\/rs_634x1024-190111153117-634-princess-caroline-phillippe-junot.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Princess Caroline, Philippe Junot, Monaco Royals\" alt=\"Princess Caroline, Philippe Junot, Monaco Royals\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Stf\/AP\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"37.934161490683\">\n<p>In June 1978, Princess Caroline married <strong>Philippe Junot<\/strong> in, if hardly the century, was at least considered the wedding of the year.\u00a0Gilles Barthe, bishop of Frejus-Toulon\u2014who married Caroline&#8217;s parents and baptized her 21 years beforehand\u2014officiated the ceremony in the palace courtyard. Old family friends Cary Grant and Ava Gardner made the guest list again, as did <strong>Frank Sinatra<\/strong>, <strong>David Niven<\/strong> and <strong>Gregory Peck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The bride wore Dior and reportedly had a little trouble getting the ring on her husband&#8217;s finger. After a walk through the streets of Monte Carlo (Grace and Rainier were driven on their wedding day), the newlyweds returned to the palace for an appearance on the balcony. As photographers below urged them to kiss, they instead blew kisses at the cameras.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Had it been the British royal family, everyone from both sides would have stood together,&#8221; a British TV reporter said in describing the scene, concluding Grace and Rainier didn&#8217;t approve because they remained inside, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/lifestyle\/1978\/06\/30\/the-religious-ceremony\/02d73796-c5d0-40e2-850b-7142ca20d027\/?utm_term=.338822513b27\" target=\"_blank\">the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em><\/a>. A guest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1978\/06\/30\/archives\/second-monaco-wedding-day-happy-and-festive-guest-list-expanded.html\" target=\"_blank\">told the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em><\/a> that Grace embraced the couple after their I-dos (or their &#8220;<em>oui<\/em>&#8216;s&#8221;), but Rainier made no similar show of affection.<\/p>\n<p>Also according to the <em>Post<\/em>,\u00a0Tele-Monte Carlo, which had the sole broadcasting rights to the civil ceremony, had to edit out\u00a0various faces made by the maid-of-honor, fidgety 13-year-old Princess St\u00e9phanie. But they didn&#8217;t miss the teen chewing gum as she signed the marriage register.<\/p>\n<p>A friend of the groom told the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em> that the newlyweds would be honeymooning somewhere\u00a0&#8220;far away from snoopers and everybody who hopes the marriage flops.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-27\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"67.061157024793\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"27.213223140496\">\n<p>&#8220;Hope&#8221; is a strong word, but the marriage did indeed flop within two years. And the parents of the bride most certainly did <em>not<\/em> approve of the match.<\/p>\n<p>They had asked Caroline to wait a year when she came to them with her intention to marry Junot, a notorious playboy 17 years her senior,\u00a0but she still wanted to marry him after that year had passed. They divorced in October 1980 and\u00a0two months later Junot was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Archives\/1980\/12\/20\/Christina-Onassis-may-be-planning-to-marry-Philippe-Junot\/9577346136400\/\" target=\"_blank\">linked in the tabloids<\/a> to thrice-divorced shipping heir <strong>Christina Onassis<\/strong>, onetime\u00a0stepdaughter of <strong>Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis<\/strong>. (Onassis moved on to marry Thierry Roussel.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Should I have put my foot down?&#8221; Rainier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Archives\/1981\/03\/23\/Monacos-Rainier-and-Grace-mark-25th-wedding-anniversary\/7559354171600\/\" target=\"_blank\">mused to UPI<\/a> in 1981. &#8220;The blessing is that when she could stand it no longer she came straight back to her family, straight back to us. She felt she was safe, that she had a refuge and we gave her support and so she got out of a situation which could not have gotten better, only worse.&#8221; (In\u00a01992, Caroline was granted an annulment from the Vatican,\u00a0giving her permission\u00a0to marry again in a Catholic ceremony.)<\/p>\n<p>The prince also denied that then-16-year-old St\u00e9phanie, who had yet to make her formal debut, was dating pop singer <strong>Michael Bos\u00e9<\/strong>. &#8220;They&#8217;ve never met,&#8221; he insisted.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-28\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"41\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/20171028\/rs_634x1024-171128141639-634-princess-grace-1982.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Grace Kelly\" alt=\"Grace Kelly\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Michel Dufour\/WireImage<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"22\">\n<p>At the time of the UPI interview,\u00a0on occasion of\u00a0Rainier and Grace&#8217;s 25th wedding anniversary, the couple were about to leave for Japan. Caroline, 24 and looking none the worse for wear after her bad, brief marriage, had just made an official appearance opening the International Television Festival and Market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prince Albert\u00a0was to graduate that spring from Amherst College in Massachusetts and Rainier said the family would be together to celebrate in June, but not with a &#8220;big hullabaloo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Grace had been spending half her time in Paris, ostensibly to be closer to Caroline in the wake of her divorce,\u00a0but there were already rumors that she and the prince were leading largely separate lives, including romantically.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-30\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"80.130731707317\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"51.441951219512\">\n<p>On Sept. 13, 1982, while leaving Roc Agel with 17-year-old daughter St\u00e9phanie in the passenger seat to drive them to the train station on their way to Paris, where the teen was starting school in a few days, Kelly\u00a0missed a harrowing turn going downhill on a steep, winding road,\u00a0and they smashed right through a low retaining wall and somersaulted for 120 feet down the\u00a0hill.<\/p>\n<p>Neither mother nor daughter was wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>It was later determined that\u00a0Kelly had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage behind the wheel of the vehicle, a\u00a01971 Rover P6 3500, though that didn&#8217;t stop the JFK-assassination-caliber conspiracy theories from piling up as to who was driving, what really went wrong, etc.\u00a0Regardless, the next day, Princess Grace of Monaco was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/1982\/09\/18\/husband-ordered-princess-graces-life-support-cut\/468931e8-aa26-4c11-9b12-5707a621a6fd\/?utm_term=.96c3a217ab1e\" target=\"_blank\">taken off life support<\/a>\u00a0and died. She was only 52.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline recalled to Jeffrey Robinson for his 1989 book <em>Rainier &amp; Grace: An Intimate Portrait<\/em>\u00a0that her mother &#8220;wasn&#8217;t feeling too well&#8221; before the accident. &#8220;She was incredibly tired. The summer had been very busy. She had&#8217;t stopped going places and doing things all summer long. She&#8217;d done too much. She never mentioned it or complained about it though. But she wasn&#8217;t in great form.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>St\u00e9phanie told Robinson that her mother complained of a headache during the drive and soon felt a sharp pain in her head. It seemed as if she blacked out for a second, and the car started to swerve.\u00a0St\u00e9phanie suspected in hindsight that Grace wanted to slam on the brake but instead hit the accelerator, though it&#8217;s also possible she didn&#8217;t have feeling in her legs. Investigators found no skid marks at the crash scene.<\/p>\n<p>A gardener working at a property nearby helped pull\u00a0St\u00e9phanie out of the passenger side window. &#8220;&#8216;Please get help, call the palace, I&#8217;m Princess Stephanie, call my father and get help,'&#8221; she remembered saying.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 100 million people watched Princess Grace&#8217;s funeral, which was attended by Cary Grant,\u00a0race care driver <strong>Jackie Stewart<\/strong>, U.S. first lady\u00a0<strong>Nancy Reagan\u00a0<\/strong>and other dignitaries from all over the world, on television.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"photo-txt-31\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"48.724279835391\">\n<div class=\"column post-content__image--left post-content__image\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image--full\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2019011\/rs_634x1024-190111164248-1024-princess-diana-grace-funeral.jpg?fit=inside|900:auto&amp;output-quality=90\" title=\"Princess Diana, Princess Grace Funeral, Monaco Royals\" alt=\"Princess Diana, Princess Grace Funeral, Monaco Royals\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"image__credits\">Tim Graham\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-photo-text\" readability=\"38.958858102435\">\n<p>Princess Diana later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/2017\/06\/princess-diana-detailed-encounters-with-elizabeth-taylor-and-grace-kelly\" target=\"_blank\">said in the tapes<\/a> used by <strong>Andrew Morton<\/strong> in his book\u00a0<em>Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words<\/em>, referring to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/prince_charles\">Prince Charles<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0asking her why she wanted to go to Kelly&#8217;s funeral, &#8220;I said, &#8216;Well, I think it&#8217;s important, because she was an outsider who married into a big family, and I&#8217;ve done the same, so it would feel right.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So I went to the queen and I said: &#8216;You know, I&#8217;d like to do this,&#8217; and she said: &#8216;I don&#8217;t see why not. If you want to do this, you can&#8217;&#8230;I went there, did my bit, came back and everyone was all over me like a bad rash: &#8216;Oh, you did so well!&#8217; And I thought: &#8216;Well, interesting.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t worry, it will only get worse,&#8221; Princess Grace had promised Diana in the bathroom of Goldsmiths&#8217; Hall during the future Princess of Wales&#8217; first event with <strong>Prince Charles<\/strong> after getting engaged.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 2 billion tuned in for Diana&#8217;s funeral in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Albert, who has been the most likely member of the family to speak on its behalf for decades,\u00a0later said that his father\u00a0never fully recovered from\u00a0Grace&#8217;s death. Innocenti was ejected, but Casiraghi was strapped into his seat and was killed when the boat slammed into the water and sank. The father of three was 30.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline was already clad in widow&#8217;s black when she was seen rushing back to Monaco from Paris.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a01999 she married <strong>Prince Ernst August of Hanover\u2014<\/strong>a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, who formally consented to the union before it took place\u2014and they&#8217;ll\u00a0mark 20 years together (and sometimes not together) on Jan. 23. Then in 2000, German\u00a0tabloid <em>Bild Zeitung<\/em> published a photo they claimed was of Ernst August urinating on one of the pavilions at the Expo 2000 fair, angering Turkey in the process, because it was their pavilion. He denied it was him in the picture and sued the outlet. &#8220;The Prince and the Pee,&#8221; was the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/801735.stm\" target=\"_blank\">BBC&#8217;s headline<\/a>; they also reported that the German royal had gone to rehab after the alleged incident and Caroline was seen visiting him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ernst August was regularly rumored to be unfaithful, they were said to be living apart in 2009 and then, in 2010,\u00a0<em>Paris-Match<\/em>\u00a0photographed the German royal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/shows\/the_royals\/news\/596645\/7-royal-scandals-that-shocked-the-world-secret-affairs-prince-harry-s-nude-photos-and-more\" target=\"_blank\">frolicking with an unidentified woman<\/a> on a beach in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>The palace had no comment.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-36\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"62\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"14\">\n<p>In a 2017\u00a0<em>People<\/em> interview, Albert called his sister a &#8220;remarkable woman,&#8221; considering everything she had been through, and a good mom and even better grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s very bright and gives extremely good advice,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Every time I&#8217;ve asked her about this or that situation or about this person I&#8217;m not sure of, she&#8217;s demonstrated very good judgment. I confide in her a lot. I confide in my wife as well. Even a paternity suit filed by Rotolo in 1993 didn&#8217;t force his hand, because a judge threw it out, citing jurisdiction issues because Jazmin was conceived in Monaco and Albert had no real ties to California.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When an event like this that is strictly in the private realm and it concerns your private life when that is made public it&#8217;s sort of a shock and you do feel betrayed in many ways,&#8221; he said, referring to a French paper Coste had apparently spoken to, revealing him as her son&#8217;s biological father.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had already taken care and pledged support and had already started supporting. Born in Rhodesia and 20 years Albert&#8217;s junior, the statuesque blonde was an Olympic swimmer for her adopted home of South Africa. They didn&#8217;t officially debut as an item until 2006 and\u00a0weren&#8217;t engaged until 2010\u2014an epic courtship in royal years.<\/p>\n<p>Their\u00a0relationship\u00a0was certainly dogged by scandalous reports, including that Charlene tried to\u00a0skip town right before the wedding and police at the Nice airport confiscated her passport. &#8220;Categorical lies,&#8221; she called the story, which originated in a French paper and was then picked up by Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Sunday Times<\/em>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/2013\/jan\/15\/sunday-times-damages-prince-albert-monaco\" target=\"_blank\">issued an apology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Princess Charlene of Monaco\u00a0<em>did<\/em> kiss her husband on the palace balcony following their religious ceremony on July 2, 2011.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a joint interview\u00a0with her husband in 2012, Charlene <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/prince-albert-princess-charlene-of-monaco-open-up-about-their-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\">told CBS News<\/a>, &#8220;I mean, to be honest with you, I really do not read anything that&#8217;s printed. I think &#8216;rumors,&#8217; the word, says a lot about itself, I suppose.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he noticed, when he first met Charlene, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/814371\/princess-charlene-of-monaco-the-other-royal-who-s-forever-living-in-the-shadow-of-a-legend\" target=\"_blank\">any similarities between his mother and the glamorous blonde who would become his wife<\/a>, Albert replied, &#8220;Now I think you know every human being is unique. And that&#8217;s the beauty of the human race. I knew that whoever I choose to marry, that she would be compared to my mother. And I was ready for that. I only have two people I consider friends here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She does not expect to be suddenly warmly welcomed into Monaco society, but she does think that after giving birth\u2014especially if it&#8217;s a son\u2014she will be more free to go off and do her own thing,&#8221; an in-the-know society person in Europe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/princess-charlenes-monaco-nightmare\" target=\"_blank\">told the Daily Beast in 2014<\/a>. &#8220;She has made little secret of the fact she would rather be back in South Africa, or London, or Paris, or anywhere but Monaco.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-42\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"63.220214190094\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"20.269076305221\">\n<p>But now married almost\u00a0eight years, the reigning Prince and Princess of Monaco\u00a0are holding fast.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YXS2x_qnDEo\" target=\"_blank\">2017 interview<\/a> while in South Africa to work with one of her charitable foundations, Charlene admitted that she &#8220;avoided princess parties&#8221; and never\u00a0had designs on joining a royal family.<\/p>\n<p>About his wife&#8217;s work-in-progress adjustment to royal life, Albert <a href=\"http:\/\/royalcentral.co.uk\/europe\/monaco\/prince-albert-praises-caroline-and-defends-charlene-in-new-interview-75753\" target=\"_blank\">told\u00a0<em>People<\/em><\/a> in 2017,\u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s more an ongoing process, getting her more familiarized with the people of Monaco, the institutional side, to give her a better understanding of how things work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the past, I haven&#8217;t always had as much time as I&#8217;d like to devote to that because I&#8217;ve been traveling and she has\u00a0work with her foundation, and I didn&#8217;t want to throw too much at her at once.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-44\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"64.981949458484\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"24.067388688327\">\n<p>Jazmin, who grew up in California and attended Fordham University in New York, didn&#8217;t have\u00a0much of a relationship with her\u00a0father until she was 11 and went to visit him in Monaco for the first time.\u00a0But he remained in her life and the actress, singer and actress conducted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/culture\/features\/a11468\/jazmin-grace-grimaldi-grace-kelly-granddaughter-0815\/\" target=\"_blank\">interview with\u00a0<em>Harper&#8217;s Bazaar<\/em><\/a> in 2015 from the palace when she was in town for her half-brother and -sister&#8217;s baptisms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was 14, getting ready to go to high school, when it hit the media that my father had a daughter, and it was me,&#8221; she recalled. &#8220;It&#8217;s a difficult time for any young adult, and it was an adjustment to have that attention. But I knew it was going to come someday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When she was in Monaco, Jazmin said, &#8220;we like to share family meals, have barbecues, go to the beach, everything a normal family does. Except with heavy scheduling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-46\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"72.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"35\">\n<p>Princess St\u00e9phanie, meanwhile, had a unique kind of trauma to recover from following their mother&#8217;s death. Not only did she suffer through the accident as well, but she had to deal with the conspiracies, such as that she was actually driving or she and Kelly were fighting in the car, in addition to the grief. She wasn&#8217;t told that Kelly had died until two days later and, still hospitalized with injuries, was unable to attend her funeral.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;I remember every minute of it,&#8221; she\u00a0told Jeffrey Robinson in 1989. &#8220;It&#8217;s only in the last few years that I&#8217;ve been starting to cope with it. I had some professional help and especially in the last eight months I&#8217;ve been learning to deal with it. I still can&#8217;t go down that road, even if someone else is driving. I always ask them to take the other road. But at least I can talk about it without crying. Although it&#8217;s hard for me to get it out in front of my dad. As far as &#8216;m concerned, I can live with it. But I still can&#8217;t talk to my dad about it because I know it hurts him and I don&#8217;t want to do that because I love him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prince Rainier told Robinson for his book, &#8221;They did their best to keep the story running and didn&#8217;t show much human compassion for the pain that we were suffering. It was dreadful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;When the press makes up a story about the Mafia wanting to kill Grace, though I can&#8217;t for a moment see why the Mafia would want to kill her, if there was some interpretation that seemed even only minutely possible, I&#8217;d say, all right. Louis is very protective of us three, he is the most serious, the wisest. That marriage\u00a0also lasted barely a year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite, or perhaps because of, the\u00a0peripatetic upbringing, Camille couldn&#8217;t sing her mom&#8217;s praises enough last year. And after a picture of herself she posted alongside one of her famous late grandmother drew countless comments noting the resemblance, she said she was obviously flattered by the comparison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every time my mother tells me about her, it&#8217;s to say what an extraordinary woman and what an exemplary mother she was. My mother was still very young when she died, with Louis and Pauline we are only grateful for all that she has given us. My mother is a great mom, she is my example, my model.
