Chris Cornell\u00a0<\/strong>will be remembered as one of the most talented musicians and rock vocalists of all time. To\u00a0Brad Pitt<\/a><\/strong>, he will also be remembered as a friend.<\/p>\n

The actor attended the “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to\u00a0Chris Cornell” benefit<\/a> on Wednesday to honor the late musician and support his family.<\/p>\n

At one point in the evening, Pitt took the stage to introduce Cornell’s daughter, Toni, who performed a rendition of her father’s hit “Redemption Song” with Ziggy Marley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“It’s my privilege\u00a0to introduce to you a very special duet,” the Oscar winner said.\u00a0“Just her third time on the mic, Toni Cornell and Ziggy Marley. Give it up!”<\/p>\n

In addition, the Ocean’s Eleven<\/em> star posed for a picture with Toni and her brother, Nicholas<\/strong>, backstage. Their sibling, Lillian<\/strong>, also took the stage at one point to say a few words about her late father.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Pitt wasn’t the only celebrity to attend the event. Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Christian Bale<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Tom Hanks<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Courteney Cox<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Cameron Crowe<\/strong>,\u00a0Kaley Cuoco<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0David Spade<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Josh Brolin<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0John Carter Cash<\/strong>,\u00a0Sam<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Aaron Taylor-Johnson<\/strong> were just a few of the other A-listers to show their support. The benefit also featured a star-studded lineup. Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton<\/strong>,\u00a0Rita Wilson<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Adam Levine<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Jesse Carmichael<\/strong>,\u00a0Stone Gossard<\/strong>,\u00a0Metallica<\/a><\/strong>, and the\u00a0Foo Fighters<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0all took the stage. Nikka Costa<\/strong>, Alain Johannes<\/strong>,\u00a0Josh Homme<\/strong>,\u00a0Audioslave<\/strong>,\u00a0Ryan<\/strong>\u00a0Adams<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Temple of the Dog<\/strong> also performed, and Soundgarden<\/strong> closed out the show.<\/p>\n

The event was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel<\/a><\/strong> and presented by Cornell’s wife, Vicky, as well as the late star’s family and friends. The benefit raised over $1 million for the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, as well as The Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

This wasn’t the first time Pitt had come to support the family since Cornell’s death. He was also spotted taking the Soundgarden<\/strong> singer’s children to Universal Studios just a few months after the rocker’s passing.<\/p>\n

Cornell\u00a0died<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in May 2017 at the age of 52. The\u00a0cause of death<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was ruled suicide by hanging.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During Cornell’s lifetime, Pitt was not only a friend of the artist but also a fan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I’m a big Chris Cornell addict, anything he does,” Pitt told\u00a0Cinema Confidential<\/em>\u00a0in 2004, when asked about his favorite music.<\/p>\n

The actor had attended several of Cornell’s concerts and was spotted at one of his shows at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theater in 2009.<\/p>\n

“He was right among the people, and no one was really bothering him too much,” a source told\u00a0Celebuzz<\/a>\u00a0at the time. “[Pitt] stayed for the entire show, encore and all, and left with the crowd. He didn’t even try to slip out early. His body guard wasn’t with him, just a driver.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Cornell and Pitt’s families had hung out together.\u00a0In\u00a02010, the actor brought daughter Zahara<\/strong> to\u00a0Toni’s sixth birthday party at an American Girl store.<\/p>\n

Cornell had also supported Pitt’s acting work over the years. The musician attended the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival to help promote the biopic\u00a0Machine Gun Preacher<\/em> after composing the movie’s theme song. At the event, he and his wife\u00a0also stopped by the premiere of Pitt’s latest film, Moneyball<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, Pitt’s fondness for Cornell’s music is even depicted on the big screen in a way; In the 1993 film True Romance<\/em>, Soundgarden’s song “Outshined” plays while the actor’s character smokes from a bong made out of a\u00a0Honey Bear bottle\u00a0and gets questioned by the mob.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Pitt and Cornell\u00a0also reunited just months before the singer’s death, when the actor\u00a0joined him and fellow rocker<\/a>\u00a0Sting<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0onstage at fourth annual charity ROCK4EB! Event.<\/p>\n

The musicians\u00a0performed the 1983 hit “Every Breath You Take” as well as Soundgarden’s 1994 hit “Black Hole Sun.”<\/p>\n

“I get to introduce a very very good friend of mine and someone I’ve known for quite a while and I’m a huge fan of, Mr. Chris Cornell,” the actor told the crowd.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
