There’s a new queen in town. The Crown<\/em> season three will feature an entire new cast of acclaimed actors taking over the very famous royal roles. Gone is Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Claire Foy<\/a><\/strong> and in her place is Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Olivia Colman<\/strong> of The Night Manager<\/em> and Broadchurch<\/em> fame.<\/p>\n

“I’m so thrilled to be part of The Crown<\/em>, I was utterly gripped watching it, a proper \u2018Just one more’ feeling,” Colman said in a statement at the time. “I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius, she’s an incredibly hard act to follow, I’m basically going to rewatch every episode and copy her!”<\/p>\n

Colman isn’t the only new addition. Over the weekend, several outlets\u00a0reported\u00a0Gillian Anderson<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is set to join the cast as brand new addition to the series\u00a0Margaret Thatcher<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Margaret Thatcher<\/h3>\n

Actress\u00a0Gillian Anderson<\/strong> is poised to play the Iron Lady in upcoming seasons of\u00a0The Crown<\/em>, according to multiple outlets.<\/p>\n

Netflix has yet to comment on Anderson’s possible role as the former British prime minister. As it stands, it’s unclear if The Crown<\/em>‘s\u00a0Thatcher character will appear in both seasons three and four of the critically-acclaimed drama.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Queen Mother<\/h3>\n

Marion Bailey<\/strong> will take over the role of the Queen Mother from Victoria Hamilton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Wonderful to be joining The Crown<\/em>. It’s a brilliant show and we have tough act to follow but what a gift to be playing the fascinating and greatly loved Queen Mother. Thrilled to be on board and working with such a top notch team,” Bailey said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Prince Charles<\/h3>\n

Viewers saw a young Prince Charles<\/strong> in The Crown<\/em> season two, but that changes with a time jump.<\/p>\n

“I am thrilled to be joining the firm for the next installment of The Crown<\/em>. Seasons three and four will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales’s life and our national story and I’m excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all. I’m very aware it’s a formidably talented family to be joining, but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in,” Josh O’Connor<\/strong> said in a statement.<\/p>\n

His other credits include Peaky Blinders<\/em>, Ripper Street<\/em> and Florence Foster Jenkins<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Prime Minister Harold Wilson<\/h3>\n

There’s a new prime minister when The Crown<\/em> jumps ahead some years for season three. Jason Watkins<\/strong> is playing Prime Minister Harold Wilson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“I am delighted to become part of this exceptional show. Harold Wilson is a significant and fascinating character in our history. So looking forward to bringing him to life, through a decade that transformed us culturally and politically. And excited to be working so closely with Olivia and the whole team,” he in a statement.<\/p>\n

Watkins’ other credits include Taboo<\/em>, A Very English Scandal<\/em> and Being Human<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Prince Philip<\/h3>\n

Doctor Who<\/em> star Matt Smith<\/strong> played Prince Philip<\/strong> in the first two seasons of The Crown<\/em>. Outlander<\/em>‘s Tobias Menzies<\/strong> is taking over the role for the upcoming third season.<\/p>\n

“I’m thrilled to be joining the new cast of The Crown<\/em> and to be working with Olivia Colman again. I look forward to becoming her ‘liege man of life and limb,'” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

In addition to Outlander<\/em>, Menzies’ credits include The Night Manager<\/em> opposite Colman, Game of Thrones<\/em>, Catastrophe<\/em> and the British Getting On<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Princess Anne<\/h3>\n

Call the Midwife<\/em> veteran Erin Doherty<\/strong> is reportedly<\/a> playing Princess Anne<\/strong>, daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.<\/p>\n

In addition to Call the Midwife<\/em>, Doherty is in the Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> miniseries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Princess Margaret<\/h3>\n

Vanessa Kirby<\/strong> played Princess Margaret<\/strong> in the first two seasons of the royal drama. Helena Bonham Carter<\/strong> met with Kirby before her participation was confirmed.<\/p>\n

“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about\u2014doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby,” Bonham Carter said in a statement. “The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter than Vanessa.”<\/p>\n

Bonham Carter’s credits include the Harry Potter<\/em> film series, Ocean’s Eight<\/em> and The King’s Speech<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Antony Armstrong-Jones<\/h3>\n

Matthew Goode<\/strong> played the character of Antony Armstrong-Jones<\/strong>, Lord Snowdon, in the second season. Ben Daniels<\/strong> of Jesus Christ Superstar Live<\/em>, House of Cards<\/em> and The Exorcist<\/em> fame, will play the part in season three.<\/p>\n

“After being glued to the first two seasons of The Crown I am beyond thrilled to be joining the cast of this incredible piece of television,” Daniels said in a statement. “Snowdon was such a dynamic and complex man, I’m really looking forward to playing him.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Claire Foy<\/strong> is handing over the crown to Olivia Colman<\/strong> for the third season.<\/p>\n
