The\u00a02019 Oscar\u00a0nominees have been announced\u2014and a few names are noticeably missing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As is the case every year, the list of contenders for the annual award show has taken some by shock and surprise. Presenters\u00a0Kumail Nanjiani<\/strong> and Tracee Ellis Ross<\/a><\/strong>shared the big news on Tuesday morning, revealing award season favorites like\u00a0Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em> and Green Book<\/em>\u00a0were included in this year’s nominee pool. Meanwhile,\u00a0The Favourite<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Roma\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>lead the pack this year with 10 nominations a piece.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rami Malek<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Roma<\/em>‘s\u00a0Marina De Tavira<\/strong>\u00a0celebrated their first Oscar nods while Hollywood icons like\u00a0Amy Adams<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0added yet another nomination to their impressive resumes. A major hat tip to the\u00a0Vice<\/em> actress, who has now been nominated a whopping six times for an Academy Award.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

While those stars are waking up to spectacular news this morning, there are some actors and actresses that unexpectedly did not make the cut this year while a few others were surprisingly included.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Without further ado, here’s a breakdown of the 2019 Oscars nominations:<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Snubs<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Bradley Cooper<\/a><\/strong>: The\u00a0A Star Is Born<\/em> leading actor was recognized for his acting talents with a Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, but surprisingly left out of the Best Director category despite the rave success of his directorial debut.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a><\/strong>: The\u00a0Beautiful Boy<\/em>\u00a0Golden Globe nominee did not get the same recognition from the Academy for his performance in the drama.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>:<\/strong> Despite Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score recognition, one of the year’s most revered films was not named a Best Picture contender.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nicole Kidman<\/a><\/strong>: Despite her Golden Globe-nominated performance in\u00a0Destroyer<\/em>, the actress was not recognized by the Academy for her performance in that film nor\u00a0Boy Erased<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lucas Hedges:\u00a0<\/strong>Kidman’s\u00a0Boy Erased\u00a0<\/em>co-star also did not get any Oscar recognition despite his Golden Globe nomination for the performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

John David Washington<\/strong>: While director\u00a0Spike Lee<\/a><\/strong> and co-star\u00a0Adam Driver<\/a><\/strong>were included in the Oscar contenders, the\u00a0BlacKkKlansman<\/em> star did not get a nod for his performance in the Oscar-nominated movie like he did for the Golden Globes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Ryan Coogler<\/strong>: While his blockbuster film\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0is among the Best Picture nominees, Coogler did not receive any Oscar love for directing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Emily Blunt<\/a><\/strong>She helped bring Mary Poppins back to life, but it wasn’t enough for a Best Actress nod.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?<\/em><\/strong>: The beloved documentary on Mr. Rogers was sadly snubbed from the Best Documentary Feature category.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Crazy Rich Asians<\/strong><\/em>: The summer blockbuster romantic comedy was nominated for Golden Globes, a SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Awards, but shockingly shut out of the Oscar nominations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Surprises<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Marina De Tavira<\/strong>:While Roma<\/em> actress\u00a0Yalitza Aparicio\u00a0<\/strong>has long been a suspected Oscar contender (and became a first-time one on Tuesday morning), her co-star also received a Best Supporting Actress nod.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs<\/em><\/strong>: The Netflix movie surprisingly scored three nominations for Best Costume Design, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
