Taraji P. Henson<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0wants to clarify her\u00a0opinion\u00a0about R&B star\u00a0R. Kelly<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0after comparing boycotts of him and disgraced producer\u00a0Harvey Weinstein<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since-deleted Instagram Story videos the actress posted this week\u00a0showed that more people promoted the #MuteRKelly hashtag and different versions of it on the social network than #MuteHarveyWeinstein and #MuteWeinstein. The former has trended on social media in recent weeks due to\u00a0the Lifetime docu-series\u00a0Surviving R. Kelly<\/em><\/a>, which\u00a0focuses on women who allegedly underwent\u00a0sexual, mental and physical abuse by the singer, who has\u00a0denied any misconduct and has not been charged with a crime.<\/p>\n

Following an online backlash over her Instagram video, Henson tweeted<\/a> on Tuesday, “LET ME BE CLEAR R. KELLY IS GUILTY AND WRONG AND SHOULD BE MUTED PERIOD!!!!!”<\/p>\n

Many users had pointed out that\u00a0using the word “mute” against Kelly rather than against Weinstein made sense because the former makes music that can be physically muted, and also noted that unlike Kelly, Weinstein has been charged with a sex crime.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Weinstein is set to stand trial this May<\/a> on\u00a0charges of sexually assaulting two women.\u00a0He has\u00a0pleaded not guilty to all five charges, including two counts of rape. He\u00a0faces a possible maximum prison sentence if convicted.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

More than 70 women have publicly accused the producer, once one of the most famous in Hollywood, of sexual assault and harassment\u00a0since 2017. He has denied\u00a0any allegations of\u00a0non-consensual sex.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

The\u00a0claims made against Weinstein inspired other women to come forward with similar accusations against other powerful men in and out of Hollywood and helped launch the #MeToo movement and Times Up initiative to stop sexual misconduct and discrimination against women.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
