Plans for\u00a0The\u00a0Princess Diaries 3<\/em> are very much intact and\u00a0Anne Hathaway<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0Julie Andrews<\/a><\/strong>, who played\u00a0Mia Thermopolis and Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the first two films, released in 2001 and 2004, are on board. In 2017, franchise creator and author Meg Cabot<\/strong>\u00a0told EW<\/a> that she had heard that there was a script for\u00a0another sequel. On Bravo’s\u00a0Watch What Happens Live<\/em> on Thursday, Hathaway, who\u00a0had her breakout role in the first movie, confirmed this and gave an update about the third film’s development.<\/p>\n

“There is a script for the third movie,” the actress\u00a0said, replying to a fan’s question. “There is a script. I want to do it, Julie wants to do it,\u00a0Debra Martin Chase<\/strong> our producer wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“It’s just, we don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it,” Hathaway continued.\u00a0“It’s as important to us as it is to you and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready. But we’re working on it.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

In 2016,\u00a0director Garry Marshall<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0told\u00a0E! News that he and Disney were in talks to make The\u00a0Princess Diaries 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“Well, you know, Disney is quite powerful,” he said, “and\u00a0they<\/em>\u00a0say they would like to announce\u2014not me\u2014but we are talking.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

He told\u00a0People<\/a><\/em>\u00a0around the same time that he had spoken to Hathaway and that “it looks like we want to do The\u00a0Princess Diaries 3<\/em> in Manhattan,” adding\u00a0he thought they would start working on the film after the actress gave birth to her son. But months after\u00a0both interviews, Marshall, 81,\u00a0died<\/a>\u00a0of complications from pneumonia following a stroke.<\/p>\n

“I think we might do it in honor of him,” Andrews told BuzzFeed News<\/a> in 2017, referring to the late director. “Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
