Congratulations to\u00a0Mahershala Ali<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The\u00a044-year-old actor<\/a>\u00a0took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for his role in\u00a0Green Book<\/em>\u00a0at the 2019\u00a0SAG Awards<\/a>\u00a0tonight.<\/p>\n

After it was announced that the\u00a0House of Cards<\/em>\u00a0performer had won at the\u00a0Screen Actors Guild Awards<\/a>, he took the stage to thank his fellow\u00a0actors for inspiring him.<\/p>\n

“The more I am fortunate and\u00a0<\/span>blessed to get to do this work\u00a0<\/span>the more I realize how much I\u00a0<\/span>need you, all of you in this\u00a0<\/span>room to draw inspiration from\u00a0<\/span>and get my cues as to how to go\u00a0<\/span>deeper and I’m just really\u00a0<\/span>grateful to be among this\u00a0<\/span>fraternity of people, fraternity\u00a0<\/span>of artists who have the good\u00a0<\/span>fortune of getting to deal and\u00a0<\/span>wrestle with the human condition\u00a0<\/span>and trying to do that\u00a0<\/span>responsibly,” he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0True Detective<\/em>\u00a0actor also took the time to thank his family for their support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

It’s clear that audiences and his fellow actors were riveted by the California native’s transformation into Dr. Don Shirley in\u00a0Green Book.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Golden Globe winning film<\/a>,\u00a0Ali plays an African American pianist who hires an Italian-American bouncer to be his driver as he tours the South in the midst of racial segregation in America during the 1960s.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Oscar winner beat out\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Beautiful Boy<\/em>),\u00a0Adam Driver<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(BlacKkKlansman<\/em>),\u00a0Sam Elliott<\/strong>\u00a0(A Star Is Born<\/em>) and\u00a0Richard E. Grant<\/strong>\u00a0(Can You Ever Forgive Me?<\/em>) to win the trophy at the SAG Awards.<\/p>\n

The New York University alum\u00a0previously won<\/a>\u00a0the same award for his work on\u00a0Moonlight<\/em>. He also shared the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture with his\u00a0Hidden Figures<\/em>\u00a0costars in 2017.<\/p>\n

Ali’s co-star,\u00a0Viggo Mortensen<\/a><\/strong>, is also up for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture prize.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
