If I didn&#8217;t get that role, I was ready to give it all up and got back to my day job as a design engineer on the Manhattan Project,&#8221; she joked. &#8220;Luckily, I did get the role. And I haven&#8217;t stopped working since. Hi, I&#8217;m Megan Mullally and I&#8217;m not just an actor, I&#8217;m your host.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-2\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"58.328227571116\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"8.8227571115974\">\n<p>Mullally turned her attention to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/lady_gaga\">Lady Gaga<\/a><\/strong>, noting the <em>A Star Is Born<\/em> singer-actress is performing in Las Vegas, helped write the flick&#8217;s music and, &#8220;she&#8217;s been doing my eyeliner for the last 15 years. I mean look at this. I just wouldn&#8217;t trust anybody else.&#8221; The host came back to Gaga again later in the night and said, &#8220;And another thanks to Lady Gaga for getting here early to put down the salad plates and organize the valet station. She&#8217;s my girl!&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-3\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"59.5\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9\">\n<p>During her opening monologue, Mullally acknowledged the diverse casts of <em>Crazy Rich Asians<\/em> and <em>Black Panther<\/em> and said, &#8220;Hollywood did manage to get a few things right. They cast black people in <em>Black Panther<\/em>, so that was good, Asian people in <em>Crazy Rich Asians<\/em>\u2014step in the right direction\u2014and a green book in <em>Green Book<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-4\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"56.348167539267\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"11.910994764398\">\n<p>Mullally also acknowledged <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/emma_stone\">Emma Stone<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s birthday in her opener. &#8220;And to SAG nominee, the beautiful Emma stone, who just turned 30, our condolences. You had a great run,&#8221; she joked, and added she&#8217;s looking forward to seeing her in reverse mortgage commercials. After that came a joke about how diverse the roles were for women this year, joking <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/glenn_close\">Glenn Close<\/a><\/strong> played a wife, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/melissa_mccarthy\">Melissa McCarthy<\/a><\/strong> played a woman who repeatedly apologizes and asks for forgiveness, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/emily_blunt\">Emily Blunt<\/a><\/strong> has roles as a nanny and a mom who had to remain quiet (in a movie written by her husband John Krasinski).<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-5\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"58.458244111349\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9.7430406852248\">\n<p>The host kept the jokes coming when <em>Will &amp; Grace<\/em> costar <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/alec_baldwin\">Alec Baldwin<\/a><\/strong> joined her to present the first award. She said he was going to play her grandson in a new film and they repeatedly flirted and talked about sexts (they played lovers on <em>Will &amp; Grace<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>On a later return to the stage, Mullally showed a residual check her late father received for his work on the pilot episode of <em>The Twilight Zone<\/em>, highlighting the work the Screen Actors Guild does for its members.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-7\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"56.615384615385\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"9.4358974358974\">\n<p>It wouldn&#8217;t be an awards show without the host singing, and Mullally sang alongside her <em>Will &amp; Grace<\/em> costar <strong>Charles C. Stevenson Jr.<\/strong>, who plays bartender Smitty in the comedy. Mullally spoke about how tomorrow she won&#8217;t be hosting an awards show, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/chris_pine\">Chris Pine<\/a><\/strong> won&#8217;t be flirting with her and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/keri_russell\">Keri Russell<\/a><\/strong> won&#8217;t be inviting her to boot camp.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But are we still on for Burning Man?&#8221; Smitty asked.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"text-8\" data-hook=\"scrollable-block\" readability=\"60\">\n<section data-textblock-tracking=\"text-block-text-only\" data-swiftype-index=\"false\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>&#8220;Of course, of course we are, Smitty. But it&#8217;s not enough.
