Taylor Swift<\/a><\/strong>‘s music helped\u00a0Lupita Nyong’o<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0shake off<\/em> a funk she was going through.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the\u00a0Oscar winner opened up about facing a “hard time professionally” while at a\u00a0screening of her new film, Little Monsters<\/em>, at the 2019 Sundance<\/a><\/strong> Film Festival. Lupita, who performs “Shake It Off” with a\u00a0ukulele in the\u00a0movie, shared with screening attendees why the song means so much to her.<\/p>\n

“I was going through a hard time professionally, and I was just in a funk,” she explained.\u00a0“I was working abroad, and my best friend came to cheer me up. He played ‘Shake It Off’ on his phone, and we just had a dance party in my bedroom.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Lupita went on to say that it meant “a lot” to her that the song was in the movie. So when she heard the film was having a hard time getting the rights to it, she wrote T.Swift herself.<\/p>\n

“I wrote Taylor Swift myself and asked her, and told her that story,” Lupita shared. “And she said yes!”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Lupita arrived in Utah for the festival just days after attending the 2019 SAG Awards<\/a><\/strong>, where she and her\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0co-stars\u00a0won the award<\/a> for\u00a0Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.<\/p>\n

It was just last week that\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0scored seven nominations<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a02019 Oscars<\/a><\/strong>, becoming the first-ever superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture. The film also scored nods for Best Original Score, Best Original Song for “All the Stars,” Production Design, Costume Design, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.<\/p>\n
