Liam Neeson<\/a><\/strong> is grabbing the attention of many followers for his latest interview.<\/p>\n

As the actor supports his new film Cold Pursuit<\/em>, the 66-year-old is making headlines for a recent incident he described in detail.<\/p>\n

While speaking to The Independent<\/em><\/a>, Liam recalled the moment he found out that a friend had been sexually violated.<\/p>\n

“She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way. But my immediate reaction was\u2026I asked, Did she know who it was? No. What color were they? She said it was a black person,” Liam explained. “I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody \u2013 I’m ashamed to say that \u2013 and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some \u2018black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know?”<\/p>\n

He added, “So that I could\u2026kill him.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

While Liam wants to protect the identity of the victim, he was quick to express regret about his mindset.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

“It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that,” he shared. “And I’ve never admitted that, and I’m saying it to a journalist. God forbid\u2026It’s awful. But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the f–k are you doing’ you know?”<\/p>\n

Liam Neeson being ready to take any Black life over what one person allegedly did just shows how meaningless and inconsequential black lives are to some.<\/p>\n

Even him telling the story demonstrates a level of privilege and understating that there may not be repercussions.<\/p>\n

That Liam Neeson interview is just so saddening (and yes, still racist). It reinforces the idea that people of colour, and especially black men, are collectively responsible for the misdeeds of one. And that when a woman is sexually violated, it’s a man who is left truly wounded.<\/p>\n

Cold Pursuit<\/em>\u00a0tells the story of Liam’s character who seeks revenge after his son is killed by a drug gang.\u00a0Emmy Rossum<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Laura Dern<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Tom Bateman<\/strong>\u00a0also star in the film hitting theatres February 8.<\/p>\n

When asked about consumers seeing violence on the big screen, Liam believes many moviegoers don’t object to it.<\/p>\n

“They can kind of live vicariously through it. People say, \u2018Yeah but violence in films makes people want to go out and kill people.’ I don’t believe that at all,” he shared. “I think the average moviegoer thinks, \u2018Yeah, punch him. Punch him.’ And they get a satisfaction out of seeing somebody else enact it, and they leave the theatre and they feel satiated in some way.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
