Dwayne Johnson<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was ready to host the\u00a02019 Oscars<\/a><\/strong>, but he couldn’t make it work with his filming schedule.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, the\u00a046-year-old star revealed that he was actually the “first choice” to host the upcoming Academy Awards, set to air on Feb. 24. After seeing a tweet recommending him as host of next year’s ceremony, Johnson shared that he tried to make it work this year.<\/p>\n

“I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever,” Johnson tweeted.\u00a0“We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji<\/em>. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

It was\u00a0confirmed earlier this week that the 2019 Oscars will go on without a host<\/a>\u00a0for the first time in 30 years.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

The announcement was made about\u00a0two months after Kevin Hart<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0stepped down<\/a> as host of the ceremony following his Twitter controversy<\/a>. Shortly after being announced as host of the Oscars,\u00a0Hart received backlash for deleting past homophobic tweets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
