The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here.<\/p>\n

While “This Is America” may have already won America’s award for Best Music Video, the Recording Academy made it official at the 2019 Grammy Awards.\u00a0Childish Gambino<\/strong>‘s iconic and symbolic music video won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video of 2019 at Sunday night’s show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Filmmaker\u00a0Hiro Murai<\/strong> accepted the award on the behalf of everyone involved in the production of the video. The team of producers also dedicated the award to\u00a0Donald Glover Sr.<\/strong>, who passed away late last year.<\/p>\n

Donald Glover<\/a><\/strong> made the announcement<\/a> during one of the stops on his\u00a0This Is America\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>tour, where he shared his sadness over being unable to share his new music with his father.\u00a0“I lost my father a couple weeks ago, and\u00a0I wanted to play him some of the new songs,” Glover said in a video shared by\u00a0a fan on Reddit<\/a>. “But he didn’t want to hear them because he was like, \u2018I know they’ll be great.'”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Donald’s music video was seen as emblematic of the current political climate in the United States, and has drawn much praise for its boldness.<\/p>\n

The team beat out the music videos for “Apes–t” by\u00a0The Carters<\/strong>,\u00a0“I’m Not Racist” by Joyner Lucas<\/strong>,\u00a0“PYNK” from Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/a><\/strong>and “MUMBO JUMBO” by\u00a0Tierra Whack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
